Personally I have no use for a tube audio product. When I have listened to them in the past, they either do nothing (i.e. distortion is below audibility) or obscure detail due to higher distortion. To the extent you do, the Pro-ject Box S2 scratches that itch well and looks adorable to boot! To help with heat i fixed a huge heatsink to the casing of the tube box, and gotten the heat to acceptable levels. It’s still very very hot, but not as much as i feel it will destroy the unit.Never used. out of box item. Besides that, the DS2 model provides several features that you can’t find in the S2. While some people can live without those features, others prefer having them to get the best sound experience. As Herbie’s ARP PE-IV String Ensemble faded in, the value having a slight increase in depth became clear: the sound was larger and a little more expansive. One downside: the S2’s improved detail retrievel revealed the audible distortion produced by the Debut Carbon’s rather short 8.6” tonearm.Also if you can upgrade it with valves you already have from amplifiers or other gear , normally the ones that are sold with the amp. or pre. are very weak and in need of an upgrade The valves are replaceable. Replacement parts are available in online stores and in other audiovisual component stores. Both come with two vacuum tubes of a common type ECC83 (12AX7). Those tubes are protected with housing in both preamps. The housing is pretty much similar on both preamps. Both models are equipped with a sonic filter that removes this rumble. You can easily turn it on or off with a press of a button.
