The De'Longhi Tascuigo AriaDry DEX216F is the largest model in the range and able to extract 16L of water from the air per day, and although the tank capacity isn't the largest, at 2.1L it still offers adequate capacity. This multi-purpose appliance also has an air purifier function with a double filtration system that can remove dust and other allergens from the air, plus a dedicated Laundry Drying function. The MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifiers are some of the best dehumidifiers we've tested. They're quiet, easy to use, work superbly and are very energy-efficient compared to other compressor models. The downside is that this dehumidifier has a far lower extraction rate than most, extracting just 0.3 litres of water from the air per day. Water tank capacity is also reduced, with the Silentnight model only able to hold 0.6L of water. That means you'll be emptying the tank frequently. Despite its compact size, this dehumidifier is also heavy. And noisy. We also didn’t find it that much help with drying clothes, although it did a good job of managing general damp and reducing condensation and mould on windows and walls.

We can see that refrigerant dehumidifiers typically use less energy than desiccant types. It is important to factor this difference in when choosing which type. There are some very important caveats on the refrigerant vs desiccant question, however:So, if you’re after the smallest dehumidifier on the market, we think the Russell Hobbs RHDH1061G wins the accolade of best small dehumidifier, with good all round performance for its size housed in one of the smallest builds on the market – along as you don't expect too much from that 0.3L extraction rate. Plus, the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier'sSmart Laundrymodeworks brilliantly for drying washing indoors – wet laundry was dry in hours rather than the days it can usually take in the draughty Victorian terrace we tested the unit in. As the name suggests, the Simple doesn't include many of the complex features found on more expensive EcoAir dehumidifiers. It does, however, have a dial for adjusting humidity settings and a laundry drying mode. The machine is also quiet at34dB - largely due to the desiccant technology. Litres Per Day: Extracts up to 10 litres of moisture per day in temperatures as low as 1°C. It’s ideal for dampness, mould and moisture in large homes, rooms, bathrooms, garages and basements. With a width of just 18cm, the Pro Breeze is one of the smallest dehumidifiers. It's also extremely lightweight, weighing just 1.1kg, and has a short 28cm height.

This model has a 10L/day moisture extraction capacity and a massive 3L water tank. It might have a lower extraction rate than the Pro Breeze 12L and 20L but due to it being a desiccant dehumidifier, it will drastically outperform BOTH of these models in low temperatures. A 10L extraction rate can still be considered on the larger end for desiccant types. All that said, the Russell Hobbs RHDH2002 20L dehumidifier still impressed our review team during testing. So, if you’re looking for a powerful dehumidifier with a cheaper upfront cost, the Russell Hobbs RHDH2002 20L is well worth considering. Only use the dehumidifier when it’s needed, typically during the more humid months. There’s no need to run it during drier seasons, and this will save energy and cost. As it's a refrigerant model, the MeacoDry ABC excels in warmer conditions. This makes it suitable for heated homes, but we wouldn't recommend it for garages, conservatories, boats or unheated rooms. For those locations, one of the small desiccant dehumidifiers on this list would be a better choice.
