About this deal
this novella was also so funny. i got so many feel good moments and laughs. wyn is very intimidating and feared by literally everyone but he is so hilarious. be prepared to laugh a bunch and for this to feed your ultimate sweet tooth š„° For some reason, Danny loves my voice. For some reason, Danny loves me. And when we both decide that his natural human life is nowhere near enough time for us to have together, we go on a journey between worlds to the one place where we can do what it takes for us to be together forever. Wyn wrapped his arms around me and squeezed almost too tight. āIt does,ā he rasped. āIt is. Youāre mine, Danny Sullivan. Iāve been waiting for you for a long time.ā Now, Iāve been in the military for twelve years and have the scarsāand missing body partsāto prove it. As a hardened soldier whoās spent his fair share of time out in the Wastesāthe dangerous place where monsters roam freeāI didnāt think anything could surprise me anymore.
A Gloam and Rig bonus short! GLOAM WORSHIPS HIS HARDWORKING FIREBRAND was so sweet -- and of course steamy. I loved seeing Gloam and Rig interacting with Seraph and Lilac and the friendship they've created was so sweet. After a hard day of setting up the fence for a vegetable patch, Gloam spends the night taking Rig apart in the most delicious ways. Love these two! Just reading the blurb, I didn't think this book would be my cuppa. Post-apocalyptic world? Monsters? Violence? No, no, and more no.Thatās fine with me,ā he told me, voice low as he pulled me down to get to my mouth. āI want you all the time, Danny Sullivan.ā His nose nudged mine. āMy sweet human,ā he murmured. Danny sees Wyn kill all the soldiers, but doesn't move to do anything himself. While he's terrified of Wyn, there's also something intriguing about him, and Danny doesn't want to kill anyway. In the end, of the first unit, Danny is the only one left alive. And then finally we get Ruke a whole new story about new characters we've never met before. It's a short, 20k novella, which of course Lily Mayne uses that short length to make us completely fall in love with Jamie, our human, and Ruke, our monster.
The book being boring is probably my main problem here. The characters were great and the relationship, even though I had a lot of questions, because hello how did it work, a man and a Soul Eater? How could it have worked? Somehow, it made sense and I even thought it was cute. They were giving shy, sometimes clueless boyfriend x really overprotective, will do anything for his man boyfriend. Wyn, despite being one of the most dangerous monsters, was so gentle and sweet for Danny. Him calling Danny 'sweet' and asking him every time if he for sure wanted something, was ughh soo cute.

The juxtaposition is clear, too, with the āmonstersā and Hamish and Mallory, who go out of their way to make Wyn and Dannyās lives worse, Mallory getting his hands on Danny at the end and just torturing him. Who are the monsters?Even if they believe Wyn is massacring humans every three years, thereās nothing in there about him torturing them. Itās clear every step of the way (and clearer with the later books) that that was never the issue. The military wants monsters they can control. They didnāt want Wyn to stop him from killing; they wanted him because they wanted to know how to do it more efficiently. Jamie could never have been with a human, and I'm so happy he and Ruke found each other so neither would be lonely for the rest of their days.
