About this deal

The seventh and final book in the series, The End is the sixth book chronologically. It was released 10th November, 2015. It follows several major story lines, with a chapters following many reoccurring characters that mostly all join together in the end. Plot points include: I stand by everything I said about this book last time around. Except that this time, I adopted a don't-read-before-bed strategy to avoid the nightmares, which was incredibly successful. HURRAH. It felt quite similar to Michael Grant's Gone series a lot of the time - a world where anyone older than 15 is gone and where kids are fighting for survival and to find food and water and a sense of stability - but with a better sense of organisation. The older kids look out for the younger ones and try to keep them safe as much as possible. Despite knowing that there's no one to stop them from smoking or drinking, no one seems to be doing so, perhaps because it would lead to increased vulnerability from the grown ups.

The Gray Lady - A ghost from the Imperial War Museum that is considered to be a bookkeeper of sorts. She "follows" Chris Marker as he takes the books from the museum. Disney Hyperion, the series' American publisher, wanted to target the books at a slightly older audience. Consequently, for this publisher's series, the cutoff age for infection was raised from 14 to 16, and some of the characters were aged up accordingly. Additionally, some of the cultural references and terminology unique to the United Kingdom were changed to ones that American readers were more likely to understand. [8] Characters [ edit ] Waitrose group [ edit ] It's such a fast paced and engaging story, and I was on the edge of my seat for the duration of the book. There are characters you'll hate but can still feel for, and characters you just want to hug, and characters you'll be terrified for. It's gory and violent and creepy and gross, but I just couldn't put it down. And I think I'm going to try and read one of these books a week over the next six weeks to keep the story fresh in my mind. James Stornay - A scientist boy who was killed by Paul Channing. He is two years older than Wiki and Jibber-Jabber. A large group of kids that live in Windsor castle. They are led by the Golden Twins. They are known for often winning the Ascot races and acting snobbish. Their Ascot races team colour is yellow or gold.

Retailers:

The St. James's kids hold a party, and Olivia Channing dies at The Collector's house that night. The rest of the group gets to the Natural History Museum. Achilleus - The Waitrose kids best fighter, he uses a sharpened piece of metal fencing for fighting. He has short hair with shapes carved in the sides. He is one of the leaders of the Holloway crew later on, and has a group of friends, mostly the best fighters from the Holloway crew. He is described as skilled with the spear, but has been shown to be able to wield any weapon. Is also gay but shows no signs of resentment towards himself for it, is hinted that him and Will (from the Tower Kids) get together in The End. Flubberguts - It seems like she has her guts growing outside her body, covered by a thin, almost transparent membrane.

Andy Thomas ("Big Nose") – A guard at the palace who guards the door to the infirmary where Maxie and Blue are held captive. He seems doubtful that David will manage to take over London and he would rather be a farmer than a guard. After Achilleus and Lewis free Maxie and Blue, Big Nose begs to be taken with them when they leave, as he has had enough of David and knows he will be punished if he stays. They oblige, and he is among those to escape the palace, though he is apparently not sure he made the right choice. Well I’ve got a couple of big TV projects on the go. The main one is a big 10-hour fantasy drama series for ITV. If all goes well, it should be on our screens next September. But because it’s early days I can’t actually tell you that much about it sadly. Like I mentioned earlier, the narrative technique kept me at a distance for quite some time. It was omniscient to the extreme, bouncing from perspective to perspective constantly. Like, every other paragraph type of constantly. So for a while I felt detached from the characters and couldn't imagine caring about their deaths (BOY WAS I WRONG), but I eventually grew to cherish every small peek into their minds. The characters were pieced together one brief dip into their heads at a time. It was a very interesting way to narrate the story, and one I don't think I've come across before. Deke (deceased) - Freak's best friend who he always hung around with before the epidemic. He dies after suffering a punctured lung from a broken vending machine glass and grown-ups took him away to eat him.My favorite scene, however, took place toward the end. Two hardcore guys have an intense fight to the death. Oh my word. I could barely read it, yet I was fascinated. There was so much tension and repulsion and the stakes have never been higher. Shout-out to Achilleus, the fighter I was rooting for. Sorry you didn't make my "favorite characters" list, buddy, but sometimes you scared me. Well I really like writing for The Kid because he’s sort of half-nuts. I can have fun with language and references. Quite a lot of the characters in the books have syndromes but they’re not spelled out, so I have this idea that The Kid has this condition that he remembers every little thing people have said to him. He stores up all these phrases and lines of information in his head and then it all comes spewing out, even if he doesn’t necessarily understand it all. His brain is wired differently. He’s a lot of fun to write, and I can put in references to things I like such as Captain Beefheart songs. The preparation for a battle in Hyde Park and the political actions between Jordan, David, Nicola, Justin and Matt. Blue - The leader of the Morrison's crew and one of the main characters. He explained to Maxie that he was once a bookworm, and not so good at fighting and being fat. But when the disease started to affect the adults and the early kids all been killed off by the grown-ups, Blue had to learn to fight and become a very strong leader and he said to Maxie as well, that he liked her, but he hadn't mentioned anything before because of Maxie's feelings for Arran.
