About this deal

Girls With Mustaches: Bundle's Aunt Marcia, aka Lady Caterham, a stern and unfriendly character, sports "the faintest suspicion of a mustache." The area has undergone a spectacular rejuvenation, especially since the 1970s. Today, it is a bustling area that is simply overflowing with great things to do and places to eat. At 2.00 am Jimmy, on the first watch in an alcove in the hallway, thinks he hears a noise coming from the library, a room that leads on to the terrace. He finds nothing in the room and continues his watch from there.

In late 1926, Agatha's husband, Archie, revealed that he was in love with another woman, Nancy Neele, and wanted a divorce. On 8 December 1926 the couple quarreled, and Archie Christie left their house, Styles, in Sunningdale, Berkshire, to spend the weekend with his mistress at Godalming, Surrey. That same evening Agatha disappeared from her home, leaving behind a letter for her secretary saying that she was going to Yorkshire. Her disappearance caused an outcry from the public, many of whom were admirers of her novels. Despite a massive manhunt, she was not found for eleven days. If you're looking for something new, The Seven Dials Mystery might turn out to be one of the hidden gems in Christie's library for you. Clueless Mystery: This novel was criticized even at the time for presenting The Reveal without giving any clues that might help the reader guess. A 1929 review stated that Christie "has held out information which the reader should have had, and, not content with scattering false clues with a lavish hand, she has carefully avoided leaving any clues pointing to the real criminal." The reconstruction of the Sundial Pillar at Seven Dials by the Trust was the first project of its kind in London since the erection of Nelson's Column in the 1840s". sevendials.com. Omniscient Council of Vagueness: The Seven Dials, whom, as a hidden Bundle observes, gather in a secret room, all wearing masks, to speak of the secret MacGuffin formula and their missing man. Fortunately, even though they don't know Bundle is listening, the masks and the pseudonyms and their vague talk don't let Bundle know that they're actually good guys and that two of them are personally known to her.The original sundial pillar". The Seven Dials Trust. 2021. Archived from the original on 29 August 2021 . Retrieved 29 August 2021. Overall, enjoyable without being gripping or especially memorable. One of Christie's more light-hearted stories. Detective Mole: No. 7, the leader of the Seven Dials secret society, is revealed to be...Superintendent Battle. Played with when it turns out that the Seven Dials are actually good guys, an amateur secret service working under Battle's direction. Seven Dials might seem like a bit of an odd name for an area – but all becomes clear once you’ve stood at its centre and counted the seven roads radiating out in different directions. During 1974, Seven Dials was named a Conservation Area with Outstanding Status [13] and during 1977 it was declared a Housing Action Area. By 1984, the Housing Action Area Committee ensured that all of the vacant homes were in some use and was encouraging business to locate in the area. [14] [15] An increasing number of buildings have been restored over the years. Since 1974, over 25 percent of the area's buildings have been listed. [16] Presently Seven Dials is a prosperous, largely commercial neighbourhood in the WC2 postcode area between the West End theatre district of Shaftesbury Avenue and the fashionable shopping district around nearby Neal's Yard. It is dominated by generally slow-moving traffic in the narrow streets, which are usually crowded with people.

Set in a gorgeous old pile, and involving a whole House of Lords of wealthy aristocrats, including several very rich and (sigh!) very stupid gilded youth, "The Seven Dials Mystery" has plot enough for a dozen mystery movies. As with many of Agatha Christies' stories, there are so many characters that you need a scorecard. Also, there seem to be plotted inside plots. Everyone could have done it and yet it is always the last person you suspect; or should I say usually the last person you would suspect. The film was adapted from the Novel by Pat Sandys, has the added benefit of the feeling that it is a play. Seven Dials is a road junction and neighbourhood in the St Giles district of the London Borough of Camden, within the greater Covent Garden area in the West End of London. Seven streets of the Seven Dials area converge at the roughly circular central roundabout, at the centre of which is a column bearing six sundials – with the column itself acting as the seventh sundial. The Seven Dials Mystery" starts off with house guests staying at Chimneys. It seems to be a lively group of bright young things who decide to play a joke on one of the young men who seems to oversleep every day. The joke goes off without an issue, but then a young man, Gerry Wade, is found dead.

I listened to the audio book (Harper Audio) version of this book. Narrated by Emilia Fox, the audio is 8 hours long. Emilia has a pleasant voice and reads at a steady pace. She does a great job of voice acting....perfect narrator to bring Bundle to life! Enjoyable listening experience! Even with The Reveal that Jimmy and Loraine have been criminals all along, Jimmy really has been developing feelings for Loraine, while her participation in his crimes has always been out of love for him. Their conversations where Loraine refuses to marry Jimmy "until they're safe" certainly take on a different context after the truth is known... The stranger who finds himself in the Dials for the first time...at the entrance of Seven obscure passages, uncertain which to take, will see enough around him to keep his curiosity awake for no inconsiderable time...

This rather long adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel (which I haven't read) is pretty highly stylized -- one or two steps removed from Monty Python's sketch, "Race of the Upper-Class Twits." Not that there's anything stupid about these characters, except a few eccentricities. It's just that it's so awfully easy to imagine that the twits came from the kind of milieu we see here. It’s a no-frills beer extravaganza with tasty accompaniments like wings and burgers. Yum. The Two Brewers The youngest of three children of the Miller family. The Millers had two other children: Margaret Frary Miller (1879–1950), called Madge, who was eleven years Agatha's senior, and Louis Montant Miller (1880–1929), called Monty, ten years older than Agatha. Amateur Sleuth: Bundle Brent, investigating a secret society because she doesn't have to worry about making a living.

I like that we have references to Chimneys, Inspector Battle appeared in a few novels, including Chimneys. One person announces to another, “By the way […] the fellow died in your room,” and then, follows up with, “Inconsiderate. Everybody’s damned inconsiderate nowadays.” There is no middle-aged Belgian detective or village busybody here, but a pert girl with impeccable breeding and a nose for adventure. Who doesn’t love a comfy hoodie or t-shirt? However, dressing for comfort doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all style – just ask the team at Super Superficial. To increase the desirability of the neighbourhood, they gave all of the streets fancy names, and built a massive sundial as a centrepiece. This had – you guessed it – seven dials (technically one was a column, but you get the idea), giving the area its name.
