About this deal

Dermot West tries to explain the concept to a group of people at a dinner party as a premonition he sometimes feels before he's in danger. When one of the guests, Sir Arlington, tells him it's all hogwash, Raymond tells of the time his Red Signal warned him before he was almost killed in Mesopotamia.

Christie often stayed at Abney Hall in Cheshire, which was owned by her brother-in-law, James Watts. She based at least two of her stories on the hall: the short story The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding, and the novel After the Funeral. Abney Hall became Agatha's greatest inspiration for country-house life, with all the servants and grandeur which have been woven into her plots. In a recent biography of Billy Wilder, Agatha Christie is quoted as saying that this was the best adaption of her work ever done on the screen. I can't praise Witness for the Prosecution any higher than that. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, came out in 1920. During her first marriage, Agatha published six novels, a collection of short stories, and a number of short stories in magazines.

In 1957 an American film version was made, starring Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton, and directed by long term Agatha Christie fan Billy Wilder. It was a high budget production with 145 extras and 38 stuntmen! The final credits ran with a request that viewers keep the plot twist a secret, as the posters said: "You'll talk about it, but please don't tell the ending." Based in a unique court room setting inside London’s County Hall, Agatha Christie’s Witness For The Prosecution is a landmark production of a gripping story of justice, passion and betrayal. Majestic foyer and bar areas and a spacious auditorium offer excellent ventilation and space for audiences to relax and enjoy this classic thriller. Leonard Vole is arrested for the murder of Emily French, a wealthy older woman. The evidence seems overwhelmingly damning, which usually means he didn’t do it. The wife of the accuses, Romaine, takes the stand in his defense. Of course I can’t reveal what happens, but you will not be surprised it was adapted for the stage and film.

There are a limited number of VIP Jury seats available per performance. You will be sitting in the Jury Box as the case unfolds before you. Jurors will receive a complimentary programme and 2 complimentary drinks (soft drink, beer or house wine), to be redeemed pre-show or at the interval. And remember, as a member of the Jury, you must shut out from your minds everything except what will take place during the trial. In 1930, Christie married archaeologist Max Mallowan (Sir Max from 1968) after joining him in an archaeological dig. Their marriage was especially happy in the early years and remained so until Christie's death in 1976.

As I mentioned, the 1957 adaptation starring Marlene Dietrich is absolutely wonderful. If you love this play, you will love the movie. Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution is a definitive and long-standing part of immersive theatre. Witness for the Prosecution began as a short story in 1925 and then became a successful stage play after premiering on 28 October 1953 at the Winter Garden Theatre, produced by Sir Peter Saunders. Christie’s gripping drama has been performed all over the world, from London's West End to Broadway, and has been a hit for years in both professional and amateur productions. Romaine looks Mayhew dead in the eye and admits to lying on the stand. But NOT because she knew he was innocent. Renowned theatre director Lucy Bailey ( Ghosts, The Graduate) is at the helm of this production of the on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller , and it has already been seen by almost 300,000 people. This success is due in part to its unique setting: the council chamber at County Hall, which lends a real sense of authenticity to Christie’s famous courtroom drama.

So 10 years ago on a boat trip, the now retired barrister Sir Edward Palliser met and made love to the 17 year old Magdalen Vaughan. He was nearing 60 at the time of their affair and was enchanted by her eagerness and hero worship of him. BBC Television produced Witness for the Prosecution in 1949, with Dale Rogers as Leonard Vole, Mary Kerridge as Romaine Vole and Derek Elphinstone as Sir Wilfrid Robarts Q.C. This version was directed by John Glyn-Jones and adapted by Sidney Budd. [6]

BUT then later it was expanded upon and turned into the novella, Dead Man's Mirror. You can find that one in the Murder in the Mews collection.Situated right on London’s South Bank and not far from Waterloo Station, County Hall is really easy to get to. And since Witness for the Prosecution has both matinee and evening performances, and there are lots of great bars and restaurants in the area – as well as numerous sightseeing opportunities, of course – it’s easy to make a day or night of it.
