About this deal

As with all cordless lawn mowers, not being tethered by the cord not only makes it easier to mow the lawn, but safer, quieter and more environmentally friendly.

After giving the WORX WG779E.2 cordless lawn mower a thorough testing on my lawn, I’m well impressed with its performance. This mower is lightweight yet robust, making it a breeze to manoeuvre around landscaping and use for the full mowing session. Its build quality feels rather sturdy for the price point. When you need a mower that’s light in weight and going to get in the smaller areas of your lawn, this may well be the best option for you. Yes it will take longer to mow the entire area, but if it fits and there’s no rush, then the WG779E.2 could be the cordless mower of choice. The noise level is relatively low compared to other mowers on the market. The motor produces a gentle hum, which is much less jarring than the sound of a petrol mower. This makes it a more pleasant experience for the user and any nagging neighbours within earshot. No specific noise-reducing features are built into the mower, but the cordless technology replaces any typically whirring engine. Durability In turbo mode, you can easily take grass from about half a foot to an inch — though if you know how to mow a lawn you will realize it is a big lawncare mistake to cut so much in one go. The grass box on the WORX WG779E.2 is very easy to remove by simply lifting the flap and unhooking. The grass clippings empty from the box with no obstructions. This is a hard topped collection box with a carry handle at the top. This is the first cordless mower I have used and I was warned that the tech involved often makes them quite heavy. That certainly wasn't an issue and I found it easy to move around and take out of my small, cluttered outbuilding. The on-board battery charge indicator lets you know exactly how much power you have left before you need to recharge

The grass box does come with a indicator flap to show you when the grass box is full, this is a nice handy feature from WORX. Those who have tested it found no fault in its cutting and liked how easy it was to store. While the charge time is agreed to be quite long for the 4.0Ah batteries, the pay off is a very long battery life that is plenty for most gardens. Reviewers also agreed that it was light and represented great value for money. The Worx WG779E.2 is a well-built, sturdy mower designed to last. My only gripe would be that the cutting blade may need replacing after a certain amount of use, but this is a standard maintenance requirement for most mowers, and it’s easy enough to do yourself or take it to a professional. Additionally, you may need to replace the batteries more often if you’re using the mower frequently or in particularly tough conditions (such as on hilly terrain or in wet weather). WORX 40V WG779E.2 Verdict Most lawn mower manufacturers recommend replacing the blade every year. That means mine is well overdue, so I am very impressed with the cutting results I am getting with that considered. How does it rate online?

As someone who has tested and reviewed many different lawn mowers, I was eager to get the WORX WG779E.2 cordless mower out on the lawn. This is one of the top-selling cordless models in the UK, but I wanted to see for myself just how well it performed. Do you like a striped lawn? Well the WORX does have a roller at the rear that gives that lovely striped look to your lawn. The roller also has suspension allowing it to adapt better to the contours of your lawn. This is another advantage over the Flymo 300 – if you like striped lawns that is! Although I have not tested the advertised continuous run time of 40–55 minutes in one go, time spent using it roughly addd up to that and it has definitely exceeded the 30-minute run time of many popular cordless mowers. Ease of use Once the height has been reduced to 30mm it is already at the maximum permitted height for a further reduction down to 20mm. So you either cut it again immediately – which also breaks the rule as it is like going from the height it was at before the reduction to 30mm all the way down to 20mm but in just one cut – or you wait until it has grown higher than 30mm when it is too long to reduce it to 20mm anyway! The WG779E.2 is relatively lightweight at 12kg, and while there are lighter models designed for small gardens, few have the same power and runtime. So, the mower is easy enough to move across lawns, even if the grass is denser, with the large wheels offering good stability and manoeuvrability.

For example, the 20mm setting is one of the lowest settings on any mower, meaning an incredibly close cut to the lawn. While it is recommended to use this setting all the time, people that mow frequently during peak growing season can use this setting to produce a neat and tidy cut close to the ground, like on an ornamental lawn. The height settings are really easy to change using a lever on the side. I find it best to start off on a higher setting as a precut, then work down a few notches to my desired height. This prevents the mower from jamming and cutting out, which it will do if the grass is too long or wet. This is very rare though and often switching up to turbo mode gives it enough oomph to cope with light overgrowth.

Metal blades are generally sharper and provide a cleaner cut to the grass blade, resulting in a neater, tidier and superior finish to your lawn and garden. The metal blade on the WG779E.2 can be sharpened when needed unlike plastic blades. It lets you choose to cut from anywhere between 20mm to 70mm with 6 separate cutting lengths. Just make sure you don’t set it at the shortest setting from the start when the lawn has significant growth, instead start at a higher setting and gradually work your way down. This gives the areas of small grass time to catch up with the long, resulting in a more even and healthy looking lawn. This is a great selling point for many UK buyers, as weather conditions mean we often need to leave the grass to grow longer before its suitable to mow it. Knowing this mower handles longer grass with ease is a good sign for any buyer based in the UK. The Worx WG779E.2 34cm lawnmower uses two 2.0Ah 20V batteries simultaneously for extra power and runtime. With intellicut technology, the mower adjusts its speed and power to grass condition therefore providing constant cutting power. Six height settings give you the cut you want, all with the ease of a single lever cutting depth adjustment. Intellicut technology adjusts speed automatically with different grass conditions so it keeps consistent cutting efficiency in dense grass. When we test mowers we like to try all of the features. I have tested the full range of cutting heights, and used it both with and without the mulching plug. I have tested on both wet and dry grass, and used it for frequent trimming versus that first mow of spring when the lawn is a little unruly.
