About this deal

A comedy series, Meet the Richardsons, written by Beaumont and Tim Reid was broadcast on Dave from February 2020; [30] it is a documentary-style sitcom with Beaumont and Richardson playing exaggerated versions of themselves. [31] A two-part Christmas Special aired from 9 December 2020 [32] and a second series followed in April 2021. The third series began broadcasting in March 2022, with the fourth series airing from 6 April 2023. The writing style is chatty and reassuring, without any inkling that her way was the right way. It was just the way it was. I found the familiarity of her experiences comforting and her honesty refreshing. I'm not overly familiar with Beaumont as I don't necessarily enjoy most Radio 4 comedy, and this was a light-hearted read with one or two memorable anecdotes and a fair bit of filler. Following in the footsteps of other comedians' books, this touched on the matter of class along with comedic diary-style entries.

She briefly became a teaching assistant and when one of her first acting jobs fell through, she took on a job as a cleaner - which came to be one of her long running gags: that she was probably the only person with both a BA and an NVQ from the University of Hull. Like when Lucy was hospitalised during her third trimester with chest pains but it turned out to be a burrito. Or when she was so tired at the park she forgot her own child's name. Heart-warming and laugh-out-loud funny, Drinking Custard also captures Lucy's marriage to comedian Jon Richardson, as they navigate Lucy's raging pregnancy hormones and balk at pram prices together. Lucy Beaumont live comedy dates

I give Drinking Custard Diary Of A Confused Mum By Lucy Beaumont (With interruptions from Jon Richardson) a Five out of Five paw rating. That said, “we went to Center Parcs recently,” says Beaumont, “and a lady in the toilet said to me: ‘Isn’t it nice that your husband’s let you be on telly with him?’ And you’re just like: ‘OK, I can now go away and write a scene.’” Even in real life, she says, “I very much still feel like the jealous wife who’s hungry for a career.” We went to Center Parcs and there was a woman in the toilet who said, ‘Can I just say, in’t it lovely that Jon lets you be on his shows?’” Beaumont remembers. “If you see me as Jon’s wife, I don’t mind. But I was a stand-up before.”

In 2019, Beaumont returned to the Edinburgh Festival with her show Space Mam, [27] which she also took on tour in the UK. The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C – Series 6: Episode 3 | Channel 4". www.channel4.com . Retrieved 1 June 2023.

The two met through fellow comedian Roisin Conaty and now have a daughter Elsie Louise, born in 2016. In her own book called Drinking Custard: Diary Of A Confused Mum, she confessed that when she was wheeled into theatre for an emergency C-section, she feared she would die. It meant Beaumont had less time for stand-up, but she didn’t stop completely. She and Richardson run regular charity comedy nights around Yorkshire. “It’s something I’m really proud of. It’s only an evening of our time, but you can raise thousands.”
