The Fairview also has sternum straps sliding along a rail on the shoulder straps so you can set them at the right height. They grip tightly to the rails, so it takes a little effort to move them. We don’t mind, though, since they stay in the right place and don’t require readjustment. I wanted to keep all the features I loved in my old Osprey Waypoint, but in a size that I could carry on budget airlines as well as small puddle jumpers in other countries without incurring a fee. These are good to push your clothes down a little further if the external straps aren’t doing it for you. On the durability and convenience front, the Fairview continues to shine. I’ve used it consistently and it’s yet to show any wear, living up to my expectations of the brand. Additionally, they can cause your water bottle to pop out unexpectedly, but that’s a story for another day. The Color

Once you’ve zipped away the straps, you can use the attached handle to carry the bag. This works very well for when the bag is in transit. The handles are comfortable to hold because of the padding and also feel very strong and durable. However, if you try to cover a significant distance in a hot climate, it does tend to get you pretty sweaty. It’s also an ideal way to keep the straps safe when storing the bag between trips. I tend to leave mine under the bed but there has been more than one occasion where I have found a cat tangled up in it! Little Features Worth NotingSomething to note about all these straps: none but the front compression straps include keepers, so you’ll potentially have a lot of excess dangling if you need to cinch things up tightly. Initially, I thought it would be too large for a long weekend. What I’m really enjoying about the bag, though, is how well it compresses down. Even if I don’t need to fully load it, it still keeps everything organized and doesn’t feel too large.

The padded straps are comfortable and the supportive internal frame makes the bag pleasant to wear. There is a sternum strap that can be adjusted to sit higher or lower. This is a huge plus for people with larger chests.A quality frame and harness system: At 4’11” most clothing stores consider me a twelve year old boy, on top of which I have narrow shoulders, so finding a harness that fits and distributes weight evenly is both vital and challenging. The laptop storage is better for small laptops. While it can store laptops up to 15 inches, I don’t recommend anything larger than 13 inches. There are internal and external compression straps on theFarpoint. The internal straps are for squashing your luggage down and holding it in place. I have to be honest and say, I never actually use these. I tied mine up the first time I used the bag and haven’t touched them since. My girlfriend, however, used the ones in her Fairview all the time and wouldn’t stop raving about them. The Farpoint comes in 40-litre, 55-litre and 70-litre variations. There is also an 80-litre version available but the 40 and 55-litre models are easily the most popular. The sternum strap keeps the shoulder straps in place and the load lifters help keep the top of the bag nicely in line with your body.

While the 40-liter capacity of the Fairview is mostly the main compartment, there are a few other places for gear.I haven’t had any trouble with size on this bag in the US, Europe, or the UK, and I’ve yet to find an overhead bin it can’t squeeze inside. It even fit in the tester bins at the airport. Carry-on compatible: Standards vary, but after talking to friends I decided I wanted something under 22 inches and preferably closer to 20.
