About this deal

Jaffa Cakes - definitely not biscuits - prepare to take on imitators". The Daily Telegraph. Archived from the original on 17 June 2018 . Retrieved 28 December 2014.

I initially baked the genoise sponge cakes and figured I’d layer the Orange Spread on top them coat them with the chocolate. But because the spreads are less “jelly” than other jams, this didn’t work as well as I wanted. So I froze the spread in small 1/2 tablespoon disks before I placed them on the genoise to help them hold their shape better. Lefèvre-Utile was founded in Nantes, in 1846 by Jean-Romain Lefèvre. [3] [5] Originally he sold biscuits from the English factory Huntley & Palmers and then he began his own production. The name comes from Lefèvre and his business partner and wife, Pauline-Isabelle Utile. [6] Their initials were first utilized by Alfons Mucha for an 1897 calendar ad for the "Lefèvre-Utile Biscuit Co." That same year the company hired Firmin Bouisset to create a poster ad. Bouisset, already noted for his work for the Menier Chocolate company, created Petit Écolier ("the Little Schoolboy") which incorporated the LU initials. Bouisset's poster was used extensively and the image was embossed on the company's Petit Beurre line of biscuits. Within a few years, the success of the logo resulted in the company becoming known as LU. [7] Pimm, a farmer's son from Kent, became the owner of an oyster bar in the City of London, near the Bank of England. He offered the tonic (a gin-based drink containing a secret mixture of herbs and liqueurs) as an aid to digestion, serving it in a small tankard known as a "No. 1 Cup", hence its subsequent name. Slowly stir the chocolate mixture until the butter is completely incorporated. Set aside to cool slightly. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips, butter and corn syrup. I do this at 60% power for around 2 minutes in increments of 30 seconds. Crowe, Victoria (2016). "Why it might not always be worth paying for Pimm's". Good Housekeeping . While the cakes are cooling, remove the disks of fruit spread from the freezer. Remove the top layer of plastic. Lefèvre Utile, better known worldwide by the initials LU, is a French manufacturer brand of biscuits, emblematic of the city of Nantes. The brand is now part of US confectionery company Mondelēz International since 2012, after splitting of its previous owner Kraft Foods Inc., [3] which had acquired it as part of its acquisition from Groupe Danone in 2007. [4] The Petit-Beurre biscuit remains the flagship product alongside the Ladyfinger, Champagne, Petit four, Prince de LU, Pim's, Paille d'Or, etc. [ citation needed] History [ edit ] Graves, Mark; Batchelor, Bruce (2003). You'll need 12 disks of spread. The Irish Revenue Commissioners also regard Jaffa Cakes as cakes, since their moisture content is greater than 12%. As a result, they are charged the reduced rate of VAT (13.5% as of 2016 [update]). [24]

The Pimm's Winter Cup and Pimm's Vodka Cup were reintroduced in 2004. Pimm's Winter Cup is a seasonally available version of Pimm's No.3 infused with spices and orange peel. Pimm's Vodka Cup [2] is a reintroduction of Pimm's No.6, but is made in limited quantities. The founder's son, Louis Lefèvre-Utile, took over the company and eventually it was acquired by Générale Biscuit S.A., which in turn was acquired by Groupe Danone in 1986. [ citation needed] Although an international brand today, LU products are primarily distributed in Western Europe, and in 2005 represented nearly half of the sales for Danone's biscuits and cereal division.
