Salinity also affects soil chemical properties such as pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), soil organic carbon, and available nutrients [1]. Salinity also alters the osmotic and matric potential of the soil solution, thereby adversely affecting soil microbial communities and their activity [9]. Moreover, the changes in the proportions of exchangeable ions in the soil solution have osmotic and ion-specific effects that can produce imbalances in plant nutrients, including deficiencies of several nutrients or excessive levels of Na + [4]. Reclaiming these salt-affected soils will require new amelioration methods and improved management practices [10].
