I’ve been testing out the Frost White version, and while it’s a bit more grey than white, I still thought it looked good up against my plain walls. The Triangle AIO3 is positioned as a multi-room speaker but it should be made clear this isn’t a wireless speaker that plays nice with other multi-room setups. If you’re going to buy this speaker, it’ll ‘speak’ to other models within Triangle’s AIO series (up to 12 devices are supported). There’s no Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Tidal Connect, or Alexa Multi-Room but it is compatible with Spotify Connect.

Of course, a multiroom system is only as good as the app or software that ties it together, and the AIO‌ app is quite good. It’s effortless to use, and it’s also responsive, which are two main things to look for when evaluating this type of product. You’ll be pleased to know that the Triangle AIO3 (2022) sounds just as good as it looks. Made from a wooden box with two 25mm silk dome tweeters and two 10cm mid-woofers inside, with a total of 90W of power, it can very easily fill up even a big living room with high res audio. The Triangle AIO 3 measures no more than 19.5 cm in height, 35.9 cm in width and 14.9 cm in depth. This is the perfect compromise between compact form and achievable performance, according to the manufacturer, who also emphasises the particularly high-quality workmanship. A shoebox-sized rectangle might not be the most exciting speaker shape, but Triangle has sharpened up the AIO 3’s looks with brushed aluminium trim around its bottom edge. There’s a matching metal plate up top, and both are finished in a fetching rose gold to compliment the Red Ochre fabric speaker grille on our review unit. The remote control enables adjustment of treble and bass and an EQ reset to restore Triangle’s ‘flat’ response. Right through the frequency range, the Triangle AIO3’s performance is suffused with warmth that makes it a not particularly bright listen at the top end. At the very least, the impact of the bass doesn’t affect midrange clarity. Vocals are smoothly described but the rest of the soundstage isn’t as well defined. As is common with wireless speakers, the volume for Bluetooth is much lower than the comparative level for Wi-Fi, requiring several nudges upwards.

A more contemporary studio recording – Alexandra by Laura Marling (96/24) – also benefited from a little treble cut, which helped sit the close-mic’d lead vocal more naturally into the mix, creating a more even presentation from top to bottom. Four small buttons sit in the bottom left corner of the device, they let you turn the speaker on, switch between sources and adjust the volume. Next to that, there’s a small LED light that tells you where it’s currently playing music from, white being Wi-Fi or USB, green being auxiliary, orange being optical and finally blue means you’re connected to Bluetooth. The AIO 3 competes almost head on with devices from Bose and Sonos, which are priced above and below the AIO 3. These two brands dominate this market to the extent where there are only two ways to compete; go for a different approach, or go out of business. Triangle went for the different approach, and it’s one I think will work well. Not everyone is willing to spend hundreds upon hundreds, and that’s fine because there are some great options that won’t break the bank, like the Sonos One.The AIO 3 relies on two 10cm woofer drivers and two 25mm tweeters for its sound, with twin 45W amplifiers delivering the power. That’s enough to fill most rooms with tunes, if not quite on the level of pricier wireless speakers like the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin or Naim Mu-So Qb. With excellent tonal balance across the entire frequency range, this speaker is dynamic and energetic. There’s lots of power behind the low end yet that doesn’t overwhelm the treble too much, which still manages to push through with a crisp edge, while the mids are portrayed with plenty of personality, although there could be slightly more emphasis there. Undoubtedly a premium option, the Triangle AIO3 (2022) combines huge sound with elegant good looks, and it’ll fit right in with any home decor even though you will need a relatively large spot to keep it in.

Via the application, you can associate your different streaming application accounts and manage your music: choose to send your favorite song on all the speakers in your house, or to diffuse a different piece from one room to another. Elegant Speaker Built to Last Through the app, you can set up a multiroom system with other Triangle speakers but there’s no way of doing it through Google Home or Apple Home. What that means is that you can’t mix and match devices, you’ll need to buy a few of these or some of Triangle’s other Wi-Fi speakers to make use of multiroom. That also means you won’t be able to control this by voice using a separate smart speaker.The Triangle AIO3 supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, the latter has support for audio up to 24-it/192kHz, while the former registers as aptX HD Bluetooth. File format support includes APE, FLAC, WAV, Apple Lossless, AAC, AAC-LC, HE- AAC, HE-AAC v2, MP3, and CBR/VBR. At the other end of the scale, the initial, rumbling crescendo isn’t quite delivered in terms of dynamic punch, which occasionally feels slightly loose through the bass.
