About this deal

Based on the latest historical research, this famous WWII battleship has been reproduced down to the finest detail in this 752mm long 1/350 scale model kit. Yamato was laid down in 1937 and commissioned into the IJN fleet in December 1941, just in time to participate in the Pacific War, although she spent much of her early career in the Japanese home waters. She served as the flagship of the Japanese Combined Fleet under Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. since she took part in many notable actions, including Midway and Leyte Gulf, and always returned unscathed.

Features a stand which can be easily attached by screws to separately-sold 1/350 scale display case. The set includes a total of 24 figures for each of the 6 different positions such as saluting, pointing to a direction, On April 7, 1945, during the Battle of Okinawa, the Yamato, along with nine other Japanese warships, embarked on a suicide mission against the U.S. Pacific Fleet, in what was termed Operation Ten-Go. The intention was for Yamato to beach herself on Okinawa and fight until destroyed, serving as an unsinkable gun battery. However, she was intercepted by U.S. aircraft before reaching Okinawa and was sunk by carrier-based bombers and torpedo bombers. More than 3,000 of her crew were lost. The Yukikaze formed part of the escort force for the Yamato's final mission and returned with many of her survivors. This is a display case that is ideal for 1/350 scale Ship Series models such as the 1/350 Japanese Battleship Yamato (Item 78025).

Even parts which had not been seen before in model form, such as the turret barbettes, have been reproduced as Tamiya challenges conventional ship model standards.

These photo-etched parts depict degaussing cables which were built and used by the Japanese Navy to protect their ships from magnetic torpedoes. Other armaments including triple 60-caliber 15.5cm guns, twin 40-caliber 12.7cm guns, 25mm cannon mounts and more are recreated in detail. Bridge, funnel and other parts concentrated in the center of the ship are faithfully replicated, giving the model a highly realistic feel. With many revolutionary features incorporated into her design, the Yamato was completed in December 1941, and met her final fate at the hands of American Navy carrier aircraft in the South China Sea while on a one-way mission to OkinawaWith this level of engineering, accuracy, and detail, this is literally Tamiya's new flagship model.
