About this deal

Highly effective dual chamber case layout for best possible cooling with excellent water cooling compatibility, supporting up to four radiators simultaneously The biggest downside of this case is the ITX motherboard that’s required (as they’re generally limited compared to ATX/mATX options), but if you want a small form factor case that actually looks like a traditional prebuilt NAS, this is the one. JONSBO N2 Review From that perspective, the JONSBO N2 isn’t a great value, but from the perspective of offering the overall best form factor you can buy, potentially being a low-powered unit (depending on the other components), and looking and functioning like a rebuilt NAS, the JONSBO N2 is an awesome option. It might also be what pre-built NAS devices have done to people’s perception, but when you use the Node 804 to build a NAS, it feels like you’re building a NAS. Nothing against more traditional cases, but the Node 804 is large enough to provide the hard drives needed for a NAS, and small enough to throw in the corner and not think about. I love this case. While the total hard drive storage locations are ultimately the most important factor of any good case, there are other key things that must be taken into consideration. First, you need to determine the type of motherboard you’ll be using before actually buying a case. To find more nodes and example flows - go to http://flows.nodered.org Starting as a systemd service. For our thermal performance tests we use all of the included fans that come with the case except for 1 x rear exhaust. We remove the pre-installed rear exhaust fans to install a Corsair H80I all-in-one liqud CPU cooler to keep our results consistent.

Graphics card compatibility: Graphics cards up to 320mm in length. Graphics cards up to 290 mm in length may be installed if a fan is installed in the lower position in the front. In terms of performance, I was surely not let down at all. The Node 804 comes with 3x fans pre-installed as standard which offer a decent amount of airflow to help and keeps thing inside cool. This is also where the dual chamber design comes into play a bit, having the PSU and hard drives in the second chamber not only relieves some of the heat from those components it also helps with the airflow as there is less in the way of the fans. With my test system installed airflow was not a problem at all and if it was, there is plenty enough room to mount a couple more fans to add a helping hand in bringing the temperature down a bit. Rear: 1 - 120/140mm fan (included is a hydraulic bearing 120mm Silent Series R2 fan, 1000 RPM speed)

While all of these features are helpful to some people, you really need to assess exactly what you’ll be using, as well as what features will be beneficial to you. Ultimately, it’s important to highlight that you can use any case you’d like and the cases below are not the only cases you can use. However, the options below are known to be some of the best options for DIY NAS builds. What Should You Look For in a Case? I used this case to build a NAS earlier this year and found that it’s not up to the normal Fractal design standard. Having built my last computer in a Define R5, the Node 804 seems to have some badly thought out features. i got a Problem with my Dashboard, after i finished programming some Nodes and adding their data to the Dashboard, i shut my raspberry down. Looking at the old Fractal Arc Mini R2 (which i used to built my NAS, but which is not produced anymore, unfortunately), it is near perfect for a cheap cost-concious home NAS build where hot-plug capabilities and 99.99999…% uptime are not a crucial requirement. While it is a different shape (a mini tower) than the Node 804 (a cube), it is only insignificantly bigger at 41.16 liters total volume compared to the Node 804’s 41.08 liters. But then again, that case is from an era where local PC storage was dominated by spinning rust… Reply

The most common types of Motherboards are ATX, though Micro-ATX (mATX) and Mini-ITX (mITX) motherboards are extremely common as well. In rare cases, E-ATX Motherboards are used as well, but they’re generally less common than ATX, mATX, or mITX.

This is a single stimulus testing scenario, purely relative to the environment. Note that the build components were selected partially to create a challenging situation. Compute loads were also purely synthetic in nature and again, subject to the environment in how the system dealt with it. Unique hard drive mounting system, fitting up to 8x 3.5″, 4x 2.5” or up to 10x 3.5”, 2x 2.5″ drives HDD/SSD The side panels are easy to remove and Fractal Design provides ample space for installing a full-size ATX power supply, as well as up to 10 drives in the two removable drive trays. Once everything is installed and ready to go, making necessary changes to the internals is also a breeze, so long as some cable management is performed. Fractal Design Node 804: Performance Fractal Design Node 804. (Source: NAS Master) We used the ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus Wi-Fi for a NAS build using TrueNAS SCALE. For the processor, we’re going all-out with the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, the best of the 5000 AMD Ryzen processors, which should test the case thermals. 32GB of DDR4 RAM is used for maximum performance. Taking a look from the rear chamber and while it may not be as fun as the front there is still a bit going on here. On the top we have the 2x hard drive cages which can each hold up to 4x 3.5″ drives. There is also a pre-installed fan in the rear chamber with room for more, plus a bottom-mounted PSU which has a dust filter on the bottom of the case and also a couple of velcro straps that one would assume are to help hold cables down and out of the way, again to allow for better airflow and a bit of tidiness.

On the bottom of the main chamber are a couple of hard drive mounts. While these are meant to hold either 2x 3.5″ or 2.5″ hard drives I have a feeling it would be more than easy enough to throw some fans down there for some more airflow! If your only goal is to build a small form factor NAS that has, at maximum, six hard drives, the Node 304 is an awesome option. The biggest issue with Mini-ITX cases is your Motherboard options are extremely limited in comparison to even Micro-ATX Motherboards. Unfortunately, Fractal doesn’t make cases like they used to anymore. Which, admittedly, is understandable since a bunch of HDDs in an “ordinary” PCs is a thing of yesteryear, with the overall DIY market strongly moving towards nvme.
