About this deal

Very good, simple and colourful – kept katie interested looking behind various flaps. Has been a favourite and stays in the car which always helps on long journeys. It has also helped with Katie learning her animals and sounds. months later this is still a firm favorite with my niece, who wanted it read three times before bed. She has memorized it now, and certainly knows the name of all the animals, but seems to enjoy pretending to not know them. If I ask, "What do you think is in this cage?" and she knows it is a lion, she'll say "Giraffe!" and when we get to the giraffe she'll insist it's a kitty, and that sort of thing. Two-year-olds are quite contrary. Dear Zoo” was written as a lift-the-flap board book in 1982, by the Scottish author, Rod Campbell. It is his most famous work, and thirty-five years later, it is still tremendously popular among the under fives in Great Britain, and has been translated into more than a dozen different languages. A fantasic book which Rufus thoroughly enjoys. He is always eager to lift the flaps and it has helped him to identify animals and the sounds that they make. It makes my heart melt when I see my little boy sat reading this book on his own, watching him doing animal actions and listening to him making the sounds of the animals :0) I’m shared all the activities first and then done a separate list at the bottom of Dear Zoo animal crafts for kids as there were so many great ideas to share.

We recently read this to our 10 month old daughter and she loves it. She really enjoys lifting the flaps to see what animals are underneath and even roars when she sees the lion. Great book. Young children will love lifting the flaps to discover the animals the zoo has sent – a monkey, a lion and even an elephant! But will they ever manage to send the perfect pet? Great flip book. The children can have fun trying to guess which animal is under the flap. It has a sentence that repeats itself and as your child gets old he may join in reading it. It good way for them to learn animal sounds as well. This may be an ideal first book for them to learn to read. Our 11 month old loves this book. She might not understand the words yet but enjoys lifting the flaps and has a fascination with animals at this young age so it's perfect! Toddler Approved have a whole week of zoo learning activities, I think this animal salt painting might be my favourite as it looks so pretty! More Zoo Books My little girl has loved this book since she was born!!!.. She's now 14 months, She makes all the animal sounds and signs them too!! She always brings to me out of her basket of books :) We made this elephant suncatcher as an Elmer craft but by using grey colours instead of (lots!) of colours for Elmer it would work well as a Dear Zoo craft. My daughter now knows what's behind each door, so shouts out the answer before I've had chance to open the flap. Good book to read and helps children to learn the different animal names.

Adjectives which relate to each animal, e.g.'They sent me an elephant, but he was too big', They sent me a snake, but he was too scary'.

There is a reason this book has been in print for some 25 years and counting. It captures perfectly what occurs in any family whenever a kid decides that they want a pet. This kid goes a little over board but hat makes the book even more heartwarming. The flaps are also great for little hands as they discover the surprises beneath. I bought this book to read to my son when he was 3 months. He gives me a big smile every time I take it out and loves turning the flaps! It was recommended by a friend and I would definitely recommend it.

Both baby and i love this book. He listens to the sounds and giggles. We added our own version of what happens after we keep the puppy at the end of the book. Things like i take him for a walk, i play catch with him and i feed him some milk and treats. This book will definately bring you and baby close as you share story time. It's good for developing social skills. I've read this book to my 5 month old daughter so many times I now know it by heart! I'm sure as she grows it will help her to learn the different animals and their characteristics. It would be nice if the name of each animal was written in the book to help with reading in later years but I suppose the fun is in the guessing! Although my son is still too young to interact, I love reading this to him, making animal noises as I go along. Seeing his smile makes reading to him so enjoyable. I hope he'll gain a love for books just like I do, especially reading the same stories I did as a child. These Dear Zoo story spoons from Crafts on Sea are super easy to make and perfect if you are working with a group I love this paper plate frog craft from Fireflies and Mud Pies or you could make this cupcake liner frog from from Kids Activities BlogI wrote to the zoo to send me a pet..." (That's a direct quote from the book) and then I'd pull out a different puppet from the box and bring it to life for a few seconds. It was fun to have the parents and talking kids chant the line over and over with me. And it was even more fun to see the children's excitement when a "live" animal came out of the box. Priceless. When my 4-year-old was at nursery this was his favourite book. He always joined in by saying most of the words, even though he couldnt read them, he remembered them as we read it so much. I wasn’t sure at first how many I’d be able to find but after asking a few bloggers for assistance I was overwhelmed by the most amazing selection of Dear Zoo activities, I’m sure you’ll love them too. However the Dear Zoo: Noisy book is well nigh perfect. It includes the fun element of flaps, teaches both the names of the animals and how to identify them. It invites questions such as: “How big is the crate?” and “What sort of animal might fit inside there?” It uses language with simple repetition, but also creatively. It has clear, attractive and humorous line drawings in bold colours.

Luca loves Dear Zoo, especially playing hide and seek with the animals. At only 8 months old, he is already attempting to pull the flaps himself to discover the animals. He likes it when mummy makes the noises of the animals. Definitely one of his favourites and mummy's too. A fantastic book that my son has loved from 3 months. We read it every night and loves pulling down the flaps. The book app for the iPad is great fun too. I'd definitely recommend this to any parent. Dear Santa by Rod Campbell is also another must! I bought this book for Samuel and Amy for Christmas, and it's Amy's favourite ! She likes opening the flaps, to see what's inside, and i've read it so many times, I know it off by heart ! Text-users: students learn that words can describe people, places animals and things. Students produce a text to describe their animal mask.

brilliant book,my granny Phil used to read this to me,when i was little,so it's a great reminder of her,and such fun to read and pass on the memories and laughter to my daughter: she loves lifting the flaps and playing hedi-boo with the zoo animals, All of our activities have been designed with EYFS children in mind and help children master new skills. Whether you’re looking to expand vocabularies, unleash your creativity, help with counting skills, or simply fancy a fun way to pass the time, we got ya covered. Have a nosey at some of our favourite ‘Dear Zoo’ and animal-related activities below: Simple clauses featuring nouns (zoo)and verbs (wrote, send) e.g.'I wrote to the zoo to send me a pet' My son loves this book! We share this story every bedtime. The wording and illustrations are perfect for toddlers, especially with the little flaps. My son also loves 'Dear Santa' by Rod Campbell which we read all year round! I think Rod Campbell books are a MUST on every baby's/toddlers book shelf. My little boy loves this book. He loves lifting the flaps and laughs at my attempt to make animal noises. He's a year old and always grabs for this book. Even as a grown up I love this book as well.
