The multigenerational drama takes place on a fictional Yorkshire family estate spanning the years between 1912 to 1926. Downton Abbey, in fact, begins on a historic date: the sinking of the Titanic in April 1912. Lady Mary and Matthew finally marry in a beautiful and swoony ceremony, while Sybil and Branson return so she can deliver their baby away from the turmoil of Ireland. Cora and Isobel clash over the alpha position at the hospital. Matthew and William go missing on the front. Ethel the maid gets pregnant by a soldier. Downton mourns Sybil. Lord Grantham loses his bedroom privileges. Baby Sybil will be catholic. O’Brien is up to no good. Thomas turns on O’Brien. Robert threatens to sell Downton Abbey. Matthew inherits some cash. Mrs Hughes doesn’t have cancer. Lady Edith is jilted at the altar.

It’s a beautiful reunion film and continuation with much of the cast returning. Well, the obvious person who won't return is Maggie Smith, since the Dowager died at the end of the sequel, something teased since the end of the first movie. She’s the widow of William Mason (another Downton servant who died from injuries related to WWI) and is now close to her father-in-law, Mr. Mason. Downton Abbeyis the award-winning historical drama series (it won 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, numerous BAFTAS, SAG awards, and more) from the talented Julian Fellowes, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Gosford Park.

One big 'maybe' in the staff column is Robert James-Collier as Thomas Barrow. At the end of A New Era, Barrow accepts an offer from Dominic West's Guy Dexter to join him in America — which means we're likely not see West again, either. She’s a compassionate idealist who often finds herself at odds with the Dowager Countess (they love to debate with each other) because of Isobel’s liberal views. Although underneath their banter, they are the best of friends. Anna is shaken. Bates knows something happened. Isobel emerges from grief to help Dr Clarkson. Tom Gillingham proposes to Mary. Edith spends the night with Michael.Mr. Bates is the valet to Lord Robert Crawley (a man he served with during WWI). He’s a bit of a mystery when we first meet him, but Bates has a strong work ethic with unshakeable morals and is fiercely loyal to those he loves – especially his wife, Anna.

Sarah O’Brien(Siobhan Finneran): A former troublemaking lady’s maid for Cora. She used to be close with Thomas, but their friendship deteriorated. She quit – becoming the lady’s maid for a Marchioness. She’s the widow of the deceased Marquis, who mysteriously left a villa to Violet. She’s not too happy with this surprising news and wants to keep the estate in her own family. Marquis de Montimirail (Jonathan Zaccai) The Spanish flu invades Downton Abbey. Matthew and Mary kiss. Lavinia dies before her wedding. Matthew can walk again. Anna and Bates get married. Downton Abbey Christmas Special 2011 The first Downtonfilm aired for 2 hours and 2 minutes, while the new movie Downton Abbey: A New Erais 2 hours and 5 minutes. Lady Mary remains single but takes Tony Gillingham for a secret marriage test drive. Jimmy leaves Downton and Molesley is the only footman. There’s more modernization on the way with a housing development at Downton Abbey. Revolutionary schoolteacher Sarah Bunting comes and goes, finally wearing out her welcome at Downton family gatherings. Isis has cancer.

Matthew and William are seriously injured and return to Downton Abbey. Lavinia stands by Matthew. And so does Mary. William marries Daisy before he dies. So, while there is no seventh season, the Downton Abbeyuniverse is far from over!
