About this deal

The babies are a handful, but even as Stephanie struggles with the disorientation of sleep deprivation as a stay-at-home mom, there’s one thing she’s sure of: she has all she ever wanted. That’s the important thing. If the person also has another life-limiting condition (such as cancer or heart failure), it may be clearer how long they may live for and how they will die. A sleep deprived mother with twins to conquer, a successful husband with a lot of secrets, and the arrival of someone from her husband's past comes to destroy everything in her marriage. Does it sound like a familiar dovetail story....It's not.....???? Then, as I'm getting towards the end of the book, a thought popped into my head: "You know what would totally cement the insanity? If this happened." And guess what... that was indeed the big twist of the story. So I didn't even get to enjoy the surprise after all that. This book is non-stop twists and turns. Shari Lapena will leave your head spinning as you try and make sense of the lies surrounding the families in this neighborhood. And just when you think you’ve figured it out, you’re probably wrong. Absolutely recommend!”

However, I abhorred the character of Stephanie, who may be the only one who’s supposed to be likable. She was idiotic and annoying, with bad dialogue...and reminded me of one of my least favorite characters in all the land (Amanda in David Bell’s The Request). Essex wanted to get rid of the influence of Cecil at court and to make Elizabeth declare James VI of Scotland as her successor. Stephanie steels herself and asks, "But when? How much longer is this going to go on?" She can hear the exhaustion-even despair-in her voice and hates herself for it. She sounds so whiny, like she can't cope. She can't stand women like that. She has always been someone who copes, and copes well. Cecil and Essex each began to build up rival factions at court. This was something Elizabeth had sought to avoid for most of her reign. A new thriller that willgive you serious Agatha Christie vibes . . . if you’re one of the many people who counts [ And Then There Were None] among their favorite books, you will love An Unwanted Guest. . . . Adeftly crafted and expertly paced thriller that will keep readers guessing (and terrified) until the very end.”

If you’re a fan of her work, the recommended books and authors mentioned above will provide you with a wealth of suspenseful and gripping reads. Prepare to embark on thrilling journeys filled with unexpected twists, complex characters, and unrelenting suspense. Stephanie had always been a little bit of a control freak, and she'd spent a lot of time on her birth plan, wanting everything to go just right. She wasn't so complacent that she thought she could do it without drugs, but she wanted to have a normal birth, even with twins.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: This mesmerizing debut novel follows the mysterious case of a renowned artist who stops speaking after being accused of murdering her husband. Unraveling the truth becomes an obsession for a criminal psychotherapist. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins: Hawkins weaves a gripping story of obsession and deceit as a woman becomes entangled in a missing person investigation. Twists and turns abound in this psychological thriller. I enjoyed that several of the characters were morally grey - some were good people who made bad choices, while others were just bad people, and then there were a few characters I was rooting for! Overall, I was very happy with the way this one ended, and I loved the epilogue! I’ve noticed my reading choices of late have been either contemporary women’s fiction or cozy mysteries with a smattering of other genres here and there- but no psychological thrillers for quite some time. So, finding myself in the mood for a good PT or Domestic thriller- however you want to categorize it- I turned to Shari Lapena. This is my fourth novel by this author, and I knew she would deliver just want I was craving… I was just looking at the house across the street," the other woman says, making her way up the drive. Hanna walks over to meet her, shielding her eyes from the sun with her hand. "Do you mind if I ask you a bit about the neighborhood?" the woman asks.
