About this deal

Place the microphone where your head will be at your preferred listening position. The mic should be equidistant from both monitors

Given the short distance to such monitors though, it is easy to go over the thresholds listed so use the tilt mechanism built into the base to point the tweeter at you. This was my favorite part about MTM. The frequency response is very flat and clear. Its ability to print mid and high frequencies and also to transfer the differences between instruments is very advanced for its size. Especially, if you are within the range of 30-60 cm from the monitors, you can perceive sounds very easily and you can edit in the mix. This is a high-pass filter that can be set to filter out frequencies below 40Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz. You can also filter out everything below 80Hz if you keep your finger on the button for 3 seconds. Preamp gains not to be ignored, clipping may be an issue so the EQ might diminish even further the dynamic range of the speaker.Your studio monitors – while not as exciting as your plugin synths, keyboards and even the computer you use – are the most important item in your production armoury. Being able to hear mistakes in your mixing – which good monitors will reveal – means you can sort them out. When I first put these up on the flat setting they weren't that impressive. The still sounded much larger than their size, but didn't do much for the diffraction problems and suffered from the same positioning and environment problems as the Adams (albeit with less room interaction - more on that later). I didn't spend too much time evaluating them at this setting, and almost immediately put the included mic up and ran the calibration.

As to the question I raised on the interaction between the iLoud MTM EQ options and the use of ARC, the protocol is that the desk EQ option is unavailable when ARC is operational, however the other EQ options can still be engaged on top of the corrected response. This makes reasonable sense to me. The desk EQ option is effectively an acoustic correction that, if the monitor is desk mounted, ARC should provide, while the LF and HF EQ options are more a matter of personal taste. You can buy the iLoud MTM monitors as a pair or as single units. Buying them singly means you get an extra sparemeasurement microphone for the same price! Predicted in-room response is for far field listening in a typical room so not as applicable to monitors on a desk: A series of push buttons tweak the response based on your needs or environment. LF (low frequency) extension activates a high-pass filter with a choice of FULL, 35, 50, 65 and 80 Hz. Two additional rows apply low or high shelving filters (Flat, +/- 1.5 or 2.5dB at 100 Hz and 10 kHz, respectively). CalibrateiLoud Micro Monitor wowed the world with the bass performance it delivered from a 3” speaker that “defied physics”. But iLoud MTM offers even more, with even bass response down to an astonishing 40Hz ideal for modern music styles. These are nearfield monitors in a truer sense than any other speaker I've ever heard. If you want to put some speakers on stands 8' in front of you, then these are not what you're looking for. If you want to listen with friends, then these are not what you are looking for. These monitors are only really going to do the things that make them special if you are sitting about an arm's-ish length away from them. My head and the speakers form a 40" equilateral triangle, and I think they would probably be a bit better if I could reduce that by a half a foot or so. Seems like both the port and woofer (s) have resonances around 2 to 4 kHz causing slight response errors. iLoud MTM uses the most advanced DSP techniques to provide total control over the speakers’ performance, delivering results simply not obtainable with traditional analog designs.
