About this deal

It offers a blend of features and functions that benefit us as users at a price that most will find affordable. Jon is a leading voice on electric toothbrushes and has been quoted by mainstream media publications for his opinions and expertise. These models oscillate at 8,800 movements per minute and 20,000 pulsations per minute. The handle also features a really handy pressure sensor which detects when you are brushing too hard and stops the pulsations to help protect your gums. They also have a 2 minute built-in timer which pulsates every 30 seconds to let you know when to switch areas of the mouth. Find out which products offer the timer here. What do we mean? Well in the box comes a smartphone holder with the Genius 9000. It has a suction cup on it that needs to attach to a mirror or wall in your bathroom. You put your smartphone in before brushing, stand in front of it and the app, camera, and brush work together to give you this data.

There are of course many similarities between these two brushes and both have some design and features I have not touched upon yet, but I believe are worth noting. The Genius X does command a premium for this technological upgrade and you get a little less in the box. You are likely going to get the best value from the Pro 1 680/Pro 1 750 variants, because they include a travel case. But, prices do vary, so this logic may not always apply. As you move up the Oral-B range, the brushes become more expensive, but they do come with additional features and accessories. We regard these as “nice-to-have” rather than essential.Ultimately, whatever brush you decide upon, it is you who needs to make the decision; but do so based on which is best for your needs or that of the end user.

The Pro 750 is not a model that is widely sold in the UK. As far as I am aware it is a model launched primarily in other European countries. I don’t have the figures of the number of oscillations and pulsations on the older Pro 5000 available to give confirmation of the power difference. And add to this, there have been various iterations of the 5000 over the years, so it would be important to find out the exact one to say 100%. In writing this comparison I almost feel that I am cheating you into believing there is more between these two brushes than there really is, but the fact of the matter is that the 3 bullet points above summarise the key differences between these two brushes. On the subject of cleaning modes, the Genius 9000 has an extra brushing mode known as ‘Tongue Cleaning’ mode. This is a cycle that lasts for 20 seconds with 7300 oscillations and 30,000 pulsations and designed for as the name suggests, cleaning the tongue. Over time you will learn how much pressure you need to apply and it will essentially become redundant for most within a few month’s.A smaller and final difference between the two models is the colour of the brush handles, or more precisely the rubber grip that runs down the front of it. The 600 comes in light Blue or Pink whilst the Pro 2 2000 comes in a dark Blue or Pink. Both have gloss white plastic bodies. By model numbers you mean the model numbers for the handles, such as D29, D36, D700, D701, D20 etc rather than Pro 2 2000, Genius X, etc?

There is a great deal to like about the iO and this is without a doubt a step up for Oral-B. But, the downside is the price. It costs quite a bit more than the Genius X and does not deliver significant benefits that would be justifiable to most for the price. Conclusion Putting this to shame is the 9000’s travel case which is heavier, bulkier but much more premium to look at and touch. It also has the ability to charge the brush in the case, by connecting the provided charging cable. If this is not enough, a USB cable can be connected to the case and charge a device like a smartphone. White in colour with pink leaf pattern on the case supplied with pink gripped handle (exceptions may apply) The inference is that the higher the number the more powerful and therefore better cleaning action.

The lower third of the brush handle is where you will find the battery status and charging icon. The battery icon will run from green to orange to red as the battery depletes and when charging the battery and charger icon will slowly flash green. Technique, brushing time and other routine habits have a greater impact than the number of oscillations and pulsations. Add to this the newer iO Series are not measured using this metric, so many of the newer brushes can’t be compared. Despite both brushes coming with multiple brush heads, the travel cases provided with each brush are capable of holding the brush handle and 2 heads only.
