I guess I was destined to read this book. I bought as I passed my usual bookshop (Bertrand) but I had no intentions of buying anything that day... (I had just bought a few books two or three days before). So, I see this book which had probably just been published in Portugal, and I just had to bring it with me!

Born in Manhattan and raised in Hong Kong, Andrew Fukuda is half-Chinese, half-Japanese. After earning a bachelor's degree in history from Cornell University, Fukuda worked in Manhattan's Chinatown with the immigrant teen community. That experience led to the writing of Crossing, his debut novel that was selected by ALA Booklist as an Editor's Choice, Top Ten First Novel, and Top Ten Crime Novel in 2010. His second novel, The Hunt, the first in a new series, was bought at auction by St. Martin's Press and will be published in May 2012. Before becoming a full time writer, Fukuda was a criminal prosecutor for seven years. He currently resides on Long Island, New York, with his family. This could be my favorite book I've read this year. It deserves so much more attention because it is so well done and absolutely beautiful!

A fascinating memoir from a young American woman who first began to realise she had psychic talents when she was a child. Her story chronicles her struggle to understand her gift, her search to learn to use it wisely, and some anecdotes of the many people who she has helped along the way.

I may have heard it recommended somewhere or it was on a list of sorts. Regardless, I had no idea really what I was reading when I started. Michael Fassbender just takes emotion to a very realistic place and portrays a man with fear , regrets , love. The decision he makes , as a man , we can relate to it. Alicia Vikander also takes you on a journey that helps you understand what being a parent mean and the sacrifices that comes along with it. Content: like I said, some graphic war scenes, mild cursing, some sexual innuendos. For the most part, though, I thought it was pretty clean. Also, there are a lot of Christian elements which is cool!

Andrew Fukuda is Japanese which adds a lot to his descriptions of Japanese culture and their treatment in internment camps. He clearly knows what he's talking about and has done his research. I really love when an author is tied to a story in a certain way, and you can definitely tell that Fukuda had a huge passion for what he was writing about. Weintraub, Steve (September 1, 2016). But if I did know it, why hadn’t I articulated it—to Pop Pop, to my mother, or even to myself? I hadn’t had a clear thought or even an inkling that anything was wrong with my grandfather, and I hadn’t gone to visit him with any kind of understanding that it would be the last time I’d see him. All I had was a mysterious sense of knowing. I didn’t understand it at all, but it made me feel horribly uncomfortable, as if I were somehow complicit in Pop Pop’s passing. I felt like I had some connection to the cruel forces that had claimed his life, and that made me feel unimaginably guilty. I feel like Laura is very humble and she does not come across as superior or egotistical; she shows her humility and genuine emotion in what she’s gone through with come to accept her gift and what it’s been like to experience.
