Flood, Alison (16 October 2012). "Moomins' first adventure reaches UK". The Guardian. London: Guardian News and Media. ISSN 0261-3077 . Retrieved 24 December 2012. Danger, threats as well as fears are present in the first book like they were present in people’s lives while the book was written. Loss and sorrow but also the hope of a better future were the realities of war. The Moomins and the Great Flood is a story about catastrophe but also about the formation of a family. Danger, threats, and fears are present in the first book, like they were present in people’s lives while the book was written. Loss and sorrow, but also the hope of a better future, were the realities of war. The book has been seen as a story of disaster and survival but also as a story of a family, how it grows and is formed, and how the family finds their way to a safe and wonderful home.

It's all a lot of fun, (sometimes it's almost as strange as Yellow Submarine) though I did think it a bit too trusting, not always explaining why they throw their lot in with people, and absolutely everyone turning out to be alright. (But then you get a similar propensity to assume people will be trustworthy in feelgood modern Scandinavian films.) An interactive playroom about the Moomins was located at Scandinavia House, New York City, from November 11, 2006, till March 31, 2007. [48] [49] Akebono Children's Forest Park [ edit ] The Moomin stories concern several eccentric and oddly-shaped characters, some of whom are related to each other. The central family consists of Moominpappa, Moominmamma and Moomintroll. [4]Moomins and the Comet Chase". Archived from the original on February 23, 2010 . Retrieved April 15, 2010. A wandering first adventure. A bit scattered, like a fairytale, but the language is delightful and the lovely illustrations do a lot of descriptive work.

Cute story of Moominmamma, Moomintroll, and a small character, who go looking for Moominpapa, when there is a big flood. Lovely characters, plus beautiful illustrations, to go with an amazing children's story. Read more

Bosworth, Mark (13 March 2014). "Tove Jansson: Love, war and the Moomins". BBC . Retrieved 13 March 2014. Elle (2013-01-12). " "Moomin Valley", Akebono Children's Forest in Hanno City". Saitama with Kids. Archived from the original on 2016-04-13 . Retrieved 2016-04-13. and it is yet another book that is beautiful enough that even had its contents been crappy, i would still love just to hold it and heft it and appreciate the texture and weight of it. it is from a small publisher whose motto is "publish few but wonderful books." Reading this book in the light of the suffering of the Finnish people in 1939 as they were caught up in the turmoil of their Winter War casts a different glow over what is essentially a classic adventure story. There are displaced persons (Moominpapa), divided families (the Moomintrolls), marching groups of soulless strangers (the Hattifatteners), and rewards for kindness rendered (the Stork, whose glasses were returned to him by Moomintroll).

Moominpappa: Orphaned in his younger years, he is a somewhat restless soul who left the orphanage to venture out into the world in his youth but has now settled down, determined to be a responsible father to his family. the story takes the shape of a journey by moominmamma and baby moomintroll to find where moominpappa, last seen in the company of the hattifatteners, has gotten himself off to. along the way, they meet other characters who will later become moomin "regulars" and moomintroll will eat too much candy in a sort of willy wonka-type wonderland. To conclude, I would rather welcome other books that will expand my horizons in literature, but I have by now discounted swathes of the latter discipline. I am done with 99 % of Victorian literature, because I cannot maintain my joie de vivre in the face of such rigid and immutable structure. I am done with science fiction and YA Fantasy and horror and Westerns. And I have been a non participatory frigid neutral where Romance is concerned. Romance leaves me cold and I feel manipulated whenever I read most of the books in that genre.Opowiadania Muminków ( The Moomins), 1977–82 Austrian, German and Polish-produced " Fuzzy-Felt" stop motion TV series made in Poland. The series has been re-compiled a number of times in other formats: I had heard of Tove Jansson and her Moomins, but that was pretty much the extent of my knowledge. It was therefore a lovely surprise to discover this fairy tale, featuring Moomintroll and Moominmamma in their search for a place to live and their long lost Moominpappa. Where the book has weaknesses, they are in both characterisation and plot. Moomintroll and his mother are on a sometimes perilous quest, but their motive changes. They start off looking for somewhere to make a warm home to hibernate over winter, but along they way their journey turns into a search for Moominpapa who went off with the Hattenfatteners, another strange creature I'd previously encountered in other tales. He seems to have left their original home, behind the stove in a human home, for no really defined reason other than wanderlust. The earliest production was a 1949 theatrical version of Comet in Moominland performed at Åbo Svenska Teater. [31] Mumintrollet ( Moomintroll), 1969 Swedish-language suit actor TV series produced by Sveriges Radio (Swedish national radio company)

Despite the melancholy, Great Flood is still taking the reader towards a good place and we get the ending that we expect and deserve - the family is reunited and all ready to set up home in Moominhouse, which is built in the shape of a round stove, a reference to the stoves that moomintrolls used to live in until the advent of central heating. Despite the suggestions of despair through the story, there is still a consistent thread of reassurance in the shape of Moominmamma - her handbag will nearly always have a solution and her arms are always open to any creature in distress. There are times when even as an adult I would love to have someone like her to turn to. In Finn Family Moomintroll the discovery of the Hobgoblin’s hat leads to the most extraordinary magic and mayhem. Coupled with the arrival of Thingumy and Bob and their mysterious suitcase, the Moomins have never experienced anything quite like this before. if you have never read a moomin book, change that now. they are perfect little jewels of creatures and everyone should have them in their hearts. whe! These are Jansson's own drawings, printed in their original hues, with all their humour and mystery shining through. It took six years, until the end of the war, for The Moomins and the Great Flood to be published, but when it was, Jansson described it as her "very first happy ending". How happy she would have been to see this glorious edition, I can only imagine. Räihä, Soile (Autumn 2005). "Tove Jansson, The Moomin Business and Finnish Children". University of Tampere.
