Tom Gates Series Book Review | Common Sense Media

Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. Tom's family is a key element of his story, whether it's his Gran with her unusual cookery, his best friend next door or his annoying sister. Kids looking for a book they can relate to in terms of families could try Good Dog McTavishby Meg Rosoff, in which McTavish the dog takes a disorganised family in hand. But what will Tom write about? Inspiration strikes when he looks at his excellent collection of ODD OBJECTS and remembers the funny stories behind each one. Starting with Great Great Aunt Aggie's fake bird hat, the weird stone with a hole and his very special doodle pen. Granny Mavis has started to knit me a new winter jumper, but by the looks of things I'm not sure it's going to fit...Liz Pichon is one of the UK’s most-loved, bestselling children’s authors and she is most popular for her Tom Gates books. Pichon’s Tom Gates series has been hugely popular with kids and their parents for its educational, engaging and funny content. Translated into 47 languages, the Tom Gates books have sold more than 14 million copies worldwide and won several Children’s literary awards in the younger fiction category. I LOVED IT it was super good but i have only read 3 so far but i love them already love them 1.tom gates is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC In the eleven years since The Brilliant World of Tom Gates was first published— the Tom Gates books have entertained and inspired children to get creative through various fun activities like reading, drawing, doodling, writing, performing and even making music. Written in diary form full of Tom's doodles and pictures and his amazing sense of humour The Brilliant World of Tom Gates, was the winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize! Each of the 20 plus books in the series (all really funny!) are a rich mix of stories, music, mischief and a whole lot of drawing. I love this book so much I carnt stop reading this book soon as I shown my mum she wanted to read it one time I started LAUGHING MY HEAD OFF I recommend this book for everyone.

Tom Gates 21: Five Star Stories by Liz Pichon | Waterstones

Wow, was I wrong. Tom Gates is instantly likeable, he has a great sense of humour, his drawings make me smile and the book just grabs your attention. I'm hoping that I can steer some of my young library patrons to this series. I thought the writing was just as good as Wimpy Kid, and I think the overall story is much better. As I said, I also don't see the stereotypes in this first book like I did in Wimpy Kid. Only time will tell if Tom stays the course, or if he walks down the Wimpy Kid road to cruelty. Ron Weasley (my youngest loved this!) read the book to us, great voice for Tom, young enough sounding and plenty of enthusiasm for the role. Tracy Beaker is now a mum, and this marvellous tale, narrated by her daughter Jess, introduces the spirited character to a new generation of readers.Serious issues are explored with sensitivity and humour, creating a funny, moving and uplifting tale. An-almost 10-year-old, Tom is the younger of the two children of Frank and Rita Gates, and is the younger brother to Delia Gates. He attends Oakfield Primary School where he attends Mr. Fullerman's Class 5F, under headmaster Mr Keen. Children in his class include Marcus Meldrew (who sits next to and consistently annoys Tom in class), and Amy Porter (who also sits next to Tom, but whom Tom hopes to impress). Also, in his year at school is his best friend Derek Fingle, who also lives next door to him. Tom has a second neighbour, June Jones, that annoys Tom and dislikes his band.Similarly, Emma shared some ideas from a true Liz Pichon fan: 'My son eats up the Tom Gates books and rereads them often. He also read the 13-Storey Treehouse series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and the Timmy Failure books within days of acquiring them.' Not me wasting an hour of my life reading Tom gates just because my cousin happened to buy it and not at all because it seemed cool Tom has forgotten to bring his baby photo into school, his shoes are making embarrassingly rude noises, and, as he rushes to the classroom, he bumps into the snuffling Amber who sneezes all over him. What else can go wrong?

The Brilliant World of Tom Gates - LoveReading4Kids The Brilliant World of Tom Gates - LoveReading4Kids

I really enjoyed reading Tom Gates and it brought me to becoming a really big Tom Gates fan.!I think it's a really funny book and my favourite part is when Tom accidentally says,''big beady eyes!"I would recommend it to anyone who likes comedy books.I think the fact that it is a diary makes it feel like someone is actually doing all these things and writing them down. This book is one of the most popular book is Britain! Not many books have lots of pictures, and funny bold words, and this book does! I've read all Tom Gates books, which are all fantastic, especially this book. I think this book is very funny. I admit it,one of the best parts of this book was when Tom and Derek were "fanboying" over their favorite boyband ,cause I am a really really huge fan of One Direction and I spend a great amount of my time fangirling over them with my best friend and this was THE FIRST BOOK that I read that went into details about teenagers being a fan of the music band/singer ,I really appreciate it. And finally, start marking your calendar, because @janesetheridgecame up with one to watch: 'It's not out until April, but I'd recommend Planet Omar by Zanib Mian, illustrated by Nadaya Mafaridik.' We can't wait!Liz Pichon studied Graphic Design at Middlesex Polytechnic and Camberwell School of Art in London. She then worked in the music industry for Jive records as a designer and art director, organising photo sessions and designing record and CD covers. Since going freelance, her work has been used on many different products all over the world. From beach towels to fabric, calendars, mugs and games. She has worked on several successful ranges of cards, some of which are still selling today. For the kids who love a good creepy story, I'd also recommend Chris Priestley's Tales of Terror, three books of intelligent and fun little ghost stories. Like Tom Gates, they have an extensive cast of children as main characters - some delightful and some perfectly horrible. Each story can be enjoyed on its own, but they also all weave together and come full circle if you do read all three books. Chris Priestley's beautiful writing will be different and challenging for those who've learned to love the bright, colloquial chat of Tom Gates, but David Roberts' illustrations allow readers to both pause and also explore the darkly comic setting.'

Yep, I said it. I stopped after reading the second Wimpy Kid book because I thought Greg Heffley was one of the meanest, nastiest kids I'd ever read about. He's cruel to his best friend, not to mention his family (personally, I thought he tormented his brother rather than the other way around). I just could not like Greg, and had a hard time figuring out why the kids love that series so much. Tom reads us his journals about everyday life, his family (older sister and how he makes her life miserable), his school (how he tries to get out of homework), his band and love for his favourite bands (Dog Zombies and Dude Three - cool names). Cute start to a series about Tom Gates, a fifth year student who loves to draw, has a crush on one of his classmates, and is perpetually late to school (and always blames his older sister, Delia, for his tardiness). The Tom Gatesbooks by Liz Pichon are hugely popular - but if your children or students are looking for something new, which stories could they possibly love as much? We have some ideas, and you shared your thoughts, too... Even though ultimately it was useless, some parts were funny! Tom Gates was acting too young for his age, I mean I have a brother who's about the same age and he's so not like this. To all those who're saying every child is different and unique, don't you think that "They put my arm in a bandage ( I was very brave)" is too much even for a 10 year old? 🤷
