About this deal

The other way to broadcast/record a remote guest is on a Zoom, or Skype call (or any conferencing app). What’s a Rich Text element? What’s a Rich Text element? What’s a Rich Text element? What’s a Rich Text element? Thanks Juan! Good point about the menu requiring sighted assistance. And to be honest, even sighted people have trouble with this because the lighted display goes off too soon and can’t be read easily. Seems like an audio company could come up with a way to turn on audio instructions or something. Anyway, about your question – I definitely do NOT turn up the gain all the way. I don’t think I had any input level issues during my Zoom test with my wife. But other than that, I haven’t used it for that since i have not needed to be on the road. Remember that if something is hard to hear from one source, you have headphone volume control. Try that before turning up the gain. This unit has a LOT of gain. And though there is a limiter (which I recommend you always use), I’m not sure that would stop a huge input level very effectively from gain being maxed out.

And here is the voiceover recording with the same settings as above (no limiter, input level set to 7+): PodTrak P4 + EV RE20 Mic – Limiter Off, Input Level 7+, Voiceover Remote guest audio samples (phone-in and Zoom)High-Quality Mic Inputs: The P4’s mic inputs feature Zoom’s professional quality preamps. Providing up to 70dB of gain, the P4 can be used with the most demanding microphones. And here is the voice recording with the same situation (limiter on/input level 8) – PodTrak + Rode. So next up is the noise-only recording with the RE20 going into the PodTrak at level 9 on the input knob. Interestingly the noise is lower than the RODE, though still unacceptably loud, in my opinion. This is because of 2 things. On the Podtrak P4, both input 3 and input 4 have built-in mix-minus functionality which is great because you don’t have to set it up yourself each time. Produce Like A Pro: The P4’s customisable Sound Pads can instantly trigger music, ads, jingles, and even pre-recorded interviews. Easily load your own sounds or choose from 11 pre-recorded presets.

On the other hand, the Zoom Podtrak P4 only output 16-bit/44.1 kHz WAV recordings. It might be not enough for producing professional audio recording files, it is fairly decent for podcasting use. Zoom H6 vs Podtrak P4 – Features & Settings Once again, I did a test with the limiter off and the input level lowered to just a bit above 7. The reduction in noise wasn’t as dramatic here as it was with the Rode. The noise level dropped by only 1.43dB. Here is the noise-only sample: PodTrak P4 + EV RE20 Mic – Limiter Off, Input Level 7+, Noise Only Since you can use the PodTrak P4 as an audio interface, you can choose to record directly to your computer or device. Livestream As I mentioned earlier, I can rarely use my excellent RE20 mic because it takes so much power to drive it. One of the great things about the PodTrak is that it has plenty of power for the RE20.What I like about the Zoom H6 is that it can mount on your tripod or camera as long as you have a hot-shoe adapter. Another advantage Zoom H6 has is its changeable mic capsule. Besides the included mic capsule, you will have some optional capsules and accessories to buy including the mid-side capsule and shotgun capsule. As for the recording quality, the Zoom H6 is more impressive from this perspective. When it comes to recording formats and quality, the Zoom H6 supports a higher bit rate and a sampling frequency up to 24bit/96kHz. Besides, the Zoom H6 also provides more formats in WAV and MP3. Only USB host controllers with Intel Chipsets are supported. Operation is not guaranteed when used with USB hubs or expansion cards. IMPORTANT – If you use inputs 3 and 4 for remote guests then that leaves you only two XLR inputs for ‘in studio’ guests.
