About this deal

Studio monitors aim to replicate the source audio as accurately as possible. This is critical if you are creating your own music. It is also important for editing podcasts and videos. The Edifier R1850DB speakers are bookshelf style units that are small, but sound a lot bigger. They may just surprise you as they aren’t just loud, the sound quality is awesome as well. When you look at the price, it really isn’t that much more expensive and I’ve seen it on sale multiple times. So what does it sound like? Well remarkably natural. Bass is punchy and controlled rather than trying to elevate the low end and distorting itself at higher volumes a focus is on speed. A wise tuning choice because at only 4 inches there is only so much air this woofer can move so why make it unusable when played over 75% volume? Instead, 85% - 95% is where this becomes loose and deformed which I think is really good because it gets loud enough to easily fill medium-sized rooms. Having said that, it still delivers great quality audio and features like DSP and DRC noise reduction.

We can recommend the R1850DBs as a great budget solution for composing music, beat making, recording and editing audio, or handling any similar audio-related task. Positioning the speakers on a bookshelf or anywhere else should not be a problem. The reason for this is that the Active to Passive speaker cable is 500 cm long (that’s five metres!). This makes it really easy to place the individual speakers far apart. While the R1700BT provides incredible value, the R1850DB’s extra connectivity, sleek design, and subtle but noticeable audio improvements are worth the very little extra. The textured front is a great addition and doesn’t attract fingerprints. Included grilles are good quality and a nice option if you want to protect the woofer and tweeter from dust. The speakers are well built with study cabinets and the right weight to sit well on the surface. Like the R1700BT, the casing is made from MDF wood, which can minimize resonance than plastic material.

Customer reviews

Maybe because they didn’t engineer the remote but took an existing design and just printed their own label? The specifications are where I do a double take, then a triple, and a fourth before I realize what I’m seeing on paper is real. How can you possibly put so many features into a speaker at this price point, box it and deliver it? The value proposition, the functionality, and as we will find out in the sound portion of our review is all there. Build and Aesthetic Impressions

With its versatile connectivity options, the speaker supports various devices such as a computer, game console, TV, or smartphone. It features Bluetooth connectivity, enabling wireless audio streaming from compatible devices. Additionally, it offers digital and analog inputs for connecting to different audio sources. Every aspect of Edifier’s R1850DB bookshelf speakers are designed with purpose. The medium-density fibreboard [MDF] enclosure reduces distortion and minimises acoustic resonance. The base of the speaker is angled at a 10-degree incline for dynamic precision and delivery. The design of the angle directs sound from the woofers right to your ears producing 70 watts of balanced quality tunes. Edifier’s R1850DB active bookshelf speakers are a stand out in both categories of style and performance. Its 4-inch midrange/woofer speaker drivers create rich lows. Meanwhile, the treble units produce clear highs. A perfectly tuned bookshelf speaker to suit your needs. Our servers are getting hit pretty hard right now. To continue shopping, enter the characters as they are shown To achieve this they often color the sound to place more emphasis on certain frequencies. This makes for a pleasing sound with warm bass and distinct highs. While great for general listening they do not perform well as dedicated studio monitors. The 1850db is quite comparable to the 1700BT in terms of sound quality. In addition, it delivers incredible performance with minimal power wastages.

The front face is angled to direct the sound, so you won’t need to use monitor stands. Also, you can remove the cloth panel to expose the drivers. However, keep in mind that the panels help to protect the drivers and diffuse the sound. Edifier 1850DB The speakers are pretty loud with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 85dbA, which is more than enough for most applications. For example, it can project the sound across the room when watching TV. Also, the distortion is minimal even at maximum volume, although I discourage you from running max capacity for long periods. The frequency response is 60Hz-20kHz. There is enough depth here in both the low and high end to deliver an accurate response. A little more room is always nice in the lower end to hit that deep sub-bass but for a woofer this size 60Hz is ample. Active bookshelf speakers are much maligned in the audiophile world but anyone doing so doesn’t quite get the point. For a lot of people the world of pairing, matching, and even setting up speakers with amplifiers is a pain in the rear end. Believe it or not people like just being able to plug something into the wall and start listening. I’m not going to sit here and argue about active vs passive speakers. I’m going to review this set of R1850DB for what they are, active powered speakers with an in-built amp.

The 19mm silk dome tweeter is also fortified to protect against punctures which can happen on cheaper, low-quality speakers.
