No, but Super Glue is cyanoacrylate. Certain types of Cyanoacrylate are referred to by the generic term super glue, as it identifies instant and strong-bonding properties that people know. Super Glue is also a registered trade name of a specific type of cyanoacrylate. Loctite popularized the Super Glue brand under distribution rights from the original patent holder Eastman Kodak. As colorants in general, both the coloring compound candidates, aside from their tracer behavior, are also light activated compounds which may act as light sensitizers and thus able to modify the amount of radicals during the polymerization. It appears that the addition of 1-nitro-anthraquinone greatly retards the polymerization rate, whilst 1-nitroso-2-naphthol acts to accelerate the polymerization rate. One manufacturer supplies the following information and advice: Safety data for ethyl cyanoacrylate from the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory of the University of Oxford Permabond 2011 gel is listed on the NSF non-food compounds registry. Permabond 2011 is a non-sag, non-drip, thixotropic gel that forms strong bonds to metal, plastics, elastomers, ceramics, and wood. This product has excellent gap-fill capability, {(0.50mm) 0.020 in} and develops strength rapidly. Handling time can be achieved in less than 10 seconds. Once fully cured the bonds are high temperature resistant {(-55 to +120°C) -65 to +250°F} and have good resistance to non-polar solvents. In addition to Permabond 2011 registered as NSF S4, Permabond has several products listed to NSF/ANSI 61 for potable water as well as epoxies that comply with the FDA Food Grade Codes CFR 175.105 and 175.300. When kept unopened in a cool, dry location such as a refrigerator at a temperature of about 55°F (13°C), the shelf life of cyanoacrylate will be extended from about one year from manufacture to at least 15 months. If the adhesive is to be used within six months, it is not necessary to refrigerate it. Cyanoacrylates are moisture-sensitive, and moving from a cool to a hot location will create condensation; after removing from the refrigerator, it is best to let the adhesive reach room temperature before opening.
