In 1992, Constantinos Raptis, newly appointed Metaxa Master creates his first edition of METAXA Private Reserve. Once a year, Constantinos keeps skillfully bringing together special blends of aged grape distillates and Muscat wines from Samos, releasing a unique batch of Private Reserve. Created in 1888 and labeled first as a Cognac and then as a brandy until prohibited by naming regulations, Metaxa is exported to tens of countries. The maker remained in private hands until sold in 1989 to Grand Metropolitan, which in turn sold it in 2000 to Rémy Cointreau. [5] [6] [7] History [ edit ] This stunning Private Reserve is blended from the finest brandies, Muscats, and botanicals that have reached their peak in both aroma and taste. Getting any of the type of Metaxa is going to cost you, as is made partially from some of the originally barreled Mextaxa wine. It is an incredibly rare brandy that can be aged for as long as 80 or more years. The flavors, aroma, and smoothness are one of the kind and you won’t find this sort of mix very often.

The company's founder, Spyros Metaxa, was born in 1848 into a family of Greek silk merchants. Exposed during his travels to spirits and wines from around the world, he created Metaxa in 1888, when he owned a tavern. [8] The " Salamina Warrior", the Metaxa emblem, is inspired by an ancient medallion that Spyros Metaxa found when building his distillery in Piraeus in 1888.
