About this deal

The silver crown of the watch is complemented with a leather wristband to give it a solid, timeless finish perfect for dress, formal, and even on a casual date! It also has a luminous triangular pip at the noon position which is the standard for diver watches. The Flight Green Dial FUNG2004F timepiece from Orient has an easy-to-read dial and luminous silver-tone hands.

Since 2019, we've been changing the way people research, buy, and sell watches. Our research tools and insights empower collectors by bringing an unprecedented level of transparency to the watch market. Meanwhile, Seiko has gained more global recognition. They have been designated as official timekeepers for several international events such as Olympic Games and Fifa World Cup. A rich legacy indeed. Orient vs Seiko: Battling in the Watchmaking IndustryAlthough this technology has been adapted and widely used by some manufacturers, Orient opted to keep its traditional mechanical timepieces.

This Orient Star watch has 24 jewels and runs on a 40S60 caliber. Orient isn’t afraid to move away from traditional styles as well. Although not the top-selling models in the watch industry, field watches are durable and affordable options. The thin metal detailing on the markers is also present on the day/date window and it creates a very finessed and balanced effect (especially with the applied classic Orient logo). The polishing is also carried into the Orient Mako II’s hands. In terms of design the hour and minute hands are sword-style while the seconds hand is a red tipped spear point. The red adds a really subtle but refreshing pop of color against the blue and white of the piece.

🍪 Privacy & Transparency

Just like the dial design, it seems like Orient don’t want to mess up with a proven formula. The case is not too big and can it most guy’s wrist comfortably. After all it’s designed for the small Asian wrist of the Japanese guys. I’m very sure most guys can pull it off without any issue.

Upping the accuracy rate to one-fifth of a second increments and measures up to 60 minutes, this Seiko timepiece is a tough one to beat. Moreover, the SSB359 has millisecond markers found in the chapter ring of the watch. The market for high-end options behaves differently as it usually is unaffected by price nor product functionality. In terms of the practicality of the watch, I also noticed that the bezel was very difficult to turn. While this is a good thing for using the watch when diving, as it’s less likely that the bezel is rotated accidentally, perhaps this could have been compensated for with deeper grooves in the bezel for better grip.

In my opinion, the Orient Mako (in any of its forms) should be a part of every watch collections as it is super cheap for the quality components it offers. However, the components of the Orient Mako are outdated and won’t be able to keep up with the need of today’s users.

Watch for Tomorrow

By eliminating the gap between the case and the bracelet, the Orient Mako II becomes more comfortable to wear. If not, then the watch will stop and it’s really a bother to have to adjust the time, day and date. Keep in mind you also have to adjust the am/pm for the watch too which is a pain in the arse. Does the 41.5 mm case measurement just include the glass portion or does it also include the blue ring with the minute markers surroudning it? Would this oversized for a 7 inch wrist? Reply
