The Sennheiser HD 450BTs aren’t the best sounding noise-cancelling headphones out there for the money. Nor are they the easiest to control on your head.Their tonality is a little skewed towards the bottom end, sacrificing the midrange clarity that more neutral rivals, such as the AKG N60NCs, are capable of. That may not play into the hands of every music fan, but those who like electric guitars to sound weighty and basslines beefy will find favour in the Sennheiser’s modest bias. It’s a useful feature, and one that works pretty well – too well, in fact. Sometimes just slightly adjusting the headphones or moving our head was enough to abruptly stop our music. The headphones come in a bulky, yet attractive fabric carrying case; inside you’ll find a UBS-C charging cable, a USB-C to USB-A adaptor, and a 3.5mm audio cable for when you want to listen with a wired connection. The customizable noise cancellation on offer here is also good, but it doesn’t quite reach the class-leading standards set by the Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless headphones. That is mostly the case with performance, too, the HD 450BTs producing a smooth, rich balance that’s enjoyable, not to mention easy to listen to. Whether you’re listening to Frahm’s virtuosic piano playing or satisfying some electro funk impulse, their full-bodied and rounded, yet still plenty lively, delivery will amiably present warm piano keys and sizzling synths alike.

A selection of sound modes tailor the sound to suit your tastes and genre. Bass Boost is ideal for a deeper, fuller sound, while Podcast mode enhances speech. For a completely bespoke sound, use the 5-band equaliser to create the perfect response for you.
