About this deal

I am an avid researcher regarding parenting techniques, especially for complex or spirited children, and have already found this summit so helpful. I especially loved Bonnie Harris’s piece. Thank you for bringing all of these great resources to the world in a way we can easily access. It’s probably unusual to have the best day and the worst day of your life within a month, especially since I was still only ten at the time. This story was very cleverly worked out and as always, I loved the little details included by the author that later in the plot came to be very important. I enjoyed Georgie as a narrator and thought her friendship with Ramzy was very genuine and well-written. One of my favourite middle-grade writers - Kiran Millwood Hargrave, author of The Girl of Ink and Stars Anfangs war ich noch recht skeptisch bei diesem Buch, vor allem weil mir einige Situationen und Figuren eher suspekt waren. Allerdings sind mir diese im Laufe der Geschichte allesamt ans Herz gewachsen.

The time travelling element of the story is fun and frightening for the intrepid pair and is entertaining reading. Family life as perceived by children is explored and again gives the story its humour and poignancy. I don't follow this TV series, but from the little I've seen, over a different actors, Dr Pretorius reminds me of Dr Who. She is intense; intelligent, knows a lot, but very intense. When she appeared in the story, she simply came along and swept the story along to where it had to go. While this was in her character, it made me nervous how she easily got the children involved. Stranger-danger kept flashing in my mind. Georgie and Ramzy are too old not to be wary of entering a stranger's house. The Dog Who Saved The World was not “inspired” by any particular event or thought (See “Where do you get your ideas from?” below). Instead it grew by lots of thinking. It was originally a story about a girl who gained the power of precognition, but it developed into something very different. In this fast-paced time travel adventure into the future, a girl and her dog set out to save the world from a deadly plague. People (Ramzy’s aunty Nush, for example) who have grown up in countries and cultures where dogs are not pets. So it’s not really their fault. assessment, instruction, and intervention in my classroom, as well as how I collaborate with my general education colleagues and parents. All that and I am only halfway through day 1!

Success!

An extraordinary and poignant quest set in the near future. I bought into the science and was so immersed in the story that I felt as if I had walked in Georgie’s footsteps. But I loved Mr. Mash the best, and it was because of him that--fifteen months later--Ramzy and I ended up meeting Dr. Pretorius. It took a while to get into this book. It kept jumping around in time frame and foreshadowing in ways that didn't really work for me. Georgina Santos, 11, would like to undo something that she had started, albeit indirectly. That she intends to do with the help of her friend Ramzy Rahman. The dog who saved the world(HT)

Review: The Dog Who Saved The World by Ross Welford Review: The Dog Who Saved The World by Ross Welford

This book wasn't quite what I expected, but still a good read. I'd like to read more of Ross' work. I don’t think I’ve read any of his books yet although Time Travelling with a Hamster is popular with my class. Looking forward to reading both of these! Update: The global pandemic that threatens dogs (and humans) in The Dog Who Saved The World has obvious, almost spooky, parallels with the worldwide outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020. The fictional “Canine-borne Ebola” (CBE) originates in China and spreads rapidly, first through dogs and then “jumping” to humans. Governments worldwide struggle to respond adequately, and people are gripped by panic.I cried for a week, and Jessica kept saying she was sorry and trying to hug me with her bony arms, but I was furious. I still am sometimes. Georgie's love of animals and particularly dogs makes this story relatable to most children. The prospect of losing your doggy best friend, and dogs disappearing from the earth is a sobering thought. Not surprisingly the children are courageous and sometimes foolhardy to stop this horror becoming reality. In my opinion, the title of the book The Dog Who Saved The World that refers to Mr. Mash, does not reflect the storyline as the adventures are related not to the dog but his owner. It is Georgina who travels to the probable future with the help of Dr. Pretorius, a millionaire scientist who is missing from her island mansion and hides her real name -- Dr. Erika Pettersen. Dr Pretorius’ faculty of multi-sensory virtual reality (MSVR) gave her a view of the probable future. Mr.Mash’s role is limited to the point that his blood is the only option to prevent mass deaths of dogs and humans alike. This book was a lot more serious than I expected. The cute title and original cutesy blurb (which has since been changed) fooled me into thinking this was a light-hearted adventure tale. Instead it’s a thought-provoking time-travelling story set in the not-too-distant future, where a deadly disease threatens not just humanity, but every beloved pet dog as well. Soon, Georgie and Mr Mash must embark on a desperate quest: to save every dog on earth, and maybe even all of humanity …
