Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, will become the first member of the Royal Family to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story. Write a report about owls. What is their habitat? What do they eat? What special abilities do they have? All of the books in the Literacy Out of the Box series have been chosen for their outdoor settings and because they lend themselves easily to Learning for Sustainability across the curriculum. She has chosen to read The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. which follows the story of Plop, a baby barn owl and aligns with this year's theme of 'Growing Together'. The chapter titles all begin with ‘Dark is?’. Can you think of other ways of describing the dark? Could you write another chapter for the story linked to your description? Who might the owl meet in your chapter? The story is about a young barn owl called Plop, who is frightened of the dark. The plot is divided into seven chapters, each covering a night during which Plop learns something new about the dark: dark is exciting, dark is kind, dark is fun, dark is necessary, dark is fascinating, dark is wonderful and dark is beautiful. Plop is gradually persuaded that the dark has its advantages.
