About this deal

Command and Control leadership is a good approach if an organization is in crisis mode, has problem employees, or is in a turnaround situation. However, in a healthier organization, tight control and monitoring is threatening, and creates dissonance, when there is little to no employee input. The book is a good resource for an organization that wants to get organized, and get leadership and staff working better together to make operations run more smoothly. However, it's not a panacea for all businesses, and may disappoint leaders who are ready for more; especially those wanting to create a multi-generational, values-based culture, and high performing business. For these reasons, I give the book a rating of 3 stars. Chapter 8: Traction. I will give a 9. I think this is where it all comes together, and I actually felt I got most of the benefit. You deserve to live your ideal life. Create the entrepreneurial life you always hoped and dreamed it could be. Define clearly what your business will look like 3 years from now—this facilitates your 1-year planning and is near-term enough to be highly motivating. PDF Summary Chapter 6: Resolving Issues

I finally decided it was time for me to learn even more about this system, so I read the book that everyone seems to be reading. The EOS Model – every business is comprised of Six Key Components that “must be managed and strengthened to create a healthy, well-run business”: Your Three Uniques – the specific value proposition that provides focus, makes you stand out in your niche or industry, and prevents you from trying to do too much From what I have read about the system, and gleaned by talking with facilitators, the process is primarily driven by a visionary, and top-down leadership approach (Visionary and “Command and Control” Leadership styles). Visionary Leadership

Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business - Gino Wickman - Google

Part of the problem is you’ve become so wrapped up in your business you’ve forgotten that it’s separate from you. To reach the next level, you need to build it into a self-sustaining entity, powered by an effective system rather than just your determination. Traction Component – the ability for business leaders to “execute well, and they know how to bring focus, accountability, and discipline to their organization Integrator – the leader of a company’s leadership team; they beat the drum, break the ties, harmoniously integrate other major functions in the organization, and accept ultimate accountability for achieving results”Set a clear direction by articulating where your organization will be in 10 years. The leadership team must discuss and define a crystal-clear picture that can excite and unite everyone in the organization. What’s our marketing strategy? At the same time, it feels divorced from reality? I just don't get the sense that the author has worked with enough companies to understand where things fall apart. At times it attempts to be theoretically perfect in a way that doesn't feel real or useful. Review to-dos from last week’s meeting—these are action items that pop up throughout the week—for example, a requirement to ship an item immediately.
