The second of the Japanese-exclusive animated series, 1988's Transformers: Super-God Masterforce takes place some years after The Headmasters, introducing the Powermasters and Pretenders to Japanese fiction in ways even more different from their portrayal in the west than those of the Headmasters before them. The series focuses on Hot Shot, Whirl, Hoist, Medix and Wedge, five young Cybertronians who enroll as the first students of the Rescue Bots Training Center, where they learn from the now-famous original Rescue Bots how to respond in emergency situations and become true heroes. In March 2009, Shout! Factory announced that they had acquired the license from Hasbro to release Transformers on DVD in Region 1 with Vivendi Entertainment.
