About this deal

So now that we’ve gone through all this math, the question becomes: How do you use this? The good news is, you don’t have to sit down and write out a bunch of math to immediately apply these concepts. Here are a few ways you can think about statistics in games that will improve your planning and in-game outcomes: Some rules allow you to re-roll a dice roll, which means you get to roll some or all of the dice again. If a rule allows you to re-roll a dice roll that was made by adding several dice together (2D6, 3D6 etc.) then, unless otherwise stated, you must re-roll all of those dice again. If a rule allows you to re-roll specific dice results, only those dice can be re-rolled. If a rule allows you to re-roll a specific dice result, but the result is obtained by halving a D6 (such as when rolling a D3), you use the value of the halved roll to determine if it can be re-rolled, not the value of the original D6. For example, if a rule states to re-roll results of 1, and you roll a D3, you would re-roll if the D6 rolled a 1 or a 2 (which is then halved to get a D3 value of a 1). This sequence supports that the fix I’ve suggested is actually accurate for 9th edition which has tweaked AP ignore rules to play as everyone has been using them. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. Okay so the first AP ignore ability doesn’t trigger this, so why am I mentioning it? Take a look at this one. Multiplicative effects will influence probability equally when applied to damage or the number of shots , regardless of the original value. Bear in mind that in many games, excess damage is wasted, so this won’t always be true in practice – for example, all other things being equal, a 10 shot 2 damage gun is mathematically identical to a 5 shot 4 damage gun, but if the models in the target unit have 2 or fewer wounds you’ll get higher performance out of the 10 shots than the 5 shots and against a single target the single shot has higher variance.

We’re no better than we started at this point, and we’ll find the same results if we opt to keep results of a 3. So when your desired outcome is just “getting generally higher results,” the rule of thumb to use is to re-roll results below your expected value. +1 and -1 Modifiers expected damage = (expected shots) * (chance to wound) * (chance of an unsaved wound) * (expected damage) Gwar! wrote:Aye, but as I said, that is not a Regular Polyhedral, and as such is of suspect fairness. A Regular Polyhedral is much easier to construct as a fair dice.At Baron Of Dice we strive to create the best dice in the world. The difference is astounding. Our hand-swirled resin dice are heavier, bubble-free, and precision engraved to deliver superior quality, balance, and detail; there is no rival. Each design is crafted with the amazing tabletop community in mind. These concepts are also true in games where you’re rolling multiple d8s or larger dice, such as in X-Wing. In that game you have blank results that make the math easier but if you’re thinking about the odds of pushing damage through against an opponent rolling dodges, you can apply these same concepts.

We’re not saying you should never fast roll saves in groups when it makes sense, just that this isn’t what the rules technically have you do and so it’s worth being cautious and noting when it makes a difference in game results.
