Like the Oral-B iO Series 9, the Sonicare 9900 Prestige contains a pressure sensor, and a light in the bottom of the brush handle that illuminates if you're overdoing it, but we found the Sonicare much less sensitive to changes in pressure. You had to press really quite hard before the brush illuminated and vibrated as a warning. There's also no alert if you're not pressing hard enough. Round Cleans Better. The dentist-inspired round brush head reaches deep between teeth to remove 100% more plaque*. There are two kinds of iO brush heads, generally known as the Ultimate Clean and Gentle Care. As a departure from the old brush heads there are no colored rings on the io brush heads but rather each head has various symbols printed on them to be a means of differentiating between them. This’s required in case you’ve numerous owners of just one brush handle. Just like the earlier brush heads, these do keep sign bristles to enable you to monitor if you have to change the brush head. You don’t have to use the app every time that you brush your teeth — the data is retained by the handle and shared with the app next time you use it.

The Genius 8000 launched as a cut-down, value version of the original Genius 9000 brush, and it still feels like a high-end toothbrush despite its price. It also gives an excellent clean, with a choice of six brush modes and three brush heads – CrossAction, 3D White and Sensitive – to cover a wide range of dental needs. Its Lithium-Ion battery still needs charging overnight but will last for over an hour of brushing from there on in, which should cover you for a couple of weeks. You don’t need a smart toothbrush to achieve clean teeth and make positive improvements to your oral care routine. You can do all you need with a manual brush, if not a cheaper electric toothbrush.If you know that you are going to take that time, then after using it for a few weeks you will begin to have a memory of where you need to go in your mouth and how long you need to stay there to make sure every surface of the tooth has been covered. Both companies claim a battery life of around 2 weeks. This is based on 1 user brushing their teeth twice a day for 2 minutes. Depending on the model you go for, you have the choice between 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 brushing modes. 7 is the maximum number of cleaning modes available on any Oral-B brush. It is surprising your dental surgery doesn’t have a hygienist, but if you are committed you could look for one locally, at another practice and go together with your son and discuss your oral care routine etc. It will cost you, but it may well be a good investment.

There was no discernible difference in the brushing performance between the brushes, and spending the required two minutes with either will deliver that “fresh from the hygienist” feeling that users really want from powered brushes. We definitely didn’t miss those extra two modes that the iO9 offered, especially as the tongue-cleaning mode is merely 20 seconds of further brushing, but on your tongue. If you want to do this with the iO7, just disconnect from the app and turn the brush onto its intense mode for the required amount of time. You can change the cleaning mode on the iO5 before turning the brush on. You can’t do this on the iO4.Just wanted to thank you for the in depth review. I do find Oral brand very confusing, It feels like they are flooding the market to ensure customers are as confused as they can be so they either buy the most expensive or the cheapest. Opening up the app and establishing a connection with the iO7 will mean that you can monitor how well you are covering the six zones of your mouth in real-time. Well, it should be real-time, but we occasionally noticed some lag between where the brush was in our mouth and the tooth map, although this could have been down to a bad Bluetooth connection. We liked how the app showed the teeth turning from dark blue to light blue and then white as we did a thorough job. But once you’ve perfected everything, then what? Will you continue to use the app once you’ve achieved a nigh-on perfect brushing score every time?

The Series 8 has 6 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense, whiten & gum care) compared to the 7 of the Series 9 (daily clean, sensitive, intense, whiten, gum care & tongue clean). The extra mode the iO9 has is tongue clean. The iO’s will display a notification on the display once a refill is due. It is similar in that you get the alert when you need it. The tech in thee Prestige is just engineered differently. The rather loud mechanical noise from older Oral-B models has been replaced with a softer and less irritating sound. It’s an improvement, but it still isn’t at the same more enjoyable pitch of most sonic toothbrushes.The competition uses USB connectors and cables. Thus you can likely use the same power adapter for your toothbrush as you can your smartphone (as long as it’s not an iPhone). That is not the case here (excuse the pun). Brush in the morning and in the evening 2 min each and use floss (many ppl who have bad smell is due to the food between the tooth which causes the smell). Marginal improvements have been made, but accuracy should be better. I know many will be frustrated by this.
