About this deal

I don't know why, but, as of late, this hasn't been obvious to me. The permanent quest for balance (university - friends - physical health) that we are so often told to relish made me worry too much about the zero-sum juggling between things that I think are important in my life. I neglected the possibility of increasing the pie and improving on all fronts. Pushing myself is the only way to achieve that. Even the hype around is riddled with contradictions. The fact that he "has overcome so many obstacles" yet HE MADE THOSE OBSTACLES (other than the ones from childhood, which he needs to deal with) I don't do this for recognition" except I wrote 2 books, have made more money than anyone ever on speaking engagements Whatever your circumstances, whatever cards you were dealt know that it’s not your fault but it’s your responsibility. Complaining won't change anything, so accept your situation and get moving to improve it. Overall, a book I highly recommend if you want to read an inspirational story about a man who has faced many difficulties in life and has come out of it with determination and grit to tell his story. You’ll no doubt be motivated and inspired by David’s story and you’ll definitely have a spring in your step going forwards. David Goggins, you’ve done it again. Bravo.

Your enemy rejoices in his exile because he thrives in barren isolation; that is the only way he has learned how to cope and survive. I hope that one day you can find the courage to say a few words to him. Perhaps you might even lift your gaze upwards to look him in the eye. Maybe even grow to understand him. Then finally — I pray you embrace and love him as your own, for veritably he is you: your inner abused child. The stories and lessons in this raw, revealing, unflinching memoir offer the listener a blueprint they can use to climb from the bottom of the barrel into a whole new stratosphere that once seemed unattainable. Whether you feel off-course in life, are looking to maximize your potential or drain your soul to break through your so-called glass ceiling, this is the only book you will ever need. The rewards I seek are internal, and if you have that mindset, you will find opportunities for growth everywhere” (Pg. 171) Wow. This man is the living, breathing, running—embodiment of self motivation. I honestly didn’t think anything could follow up ‘Can’t Hurt Me’, and I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong.Get in your mind and transform your thinking. Create an alter ego if you need to, then play the part. Every time you look in the mirror you should see that lion that you wish to become. If required, allow your insecurities to push you and drive you to be better. They’re an energy source that you should tap into to conquer your demons. Still, a paragraph at the very end of the book totally changed the way I saw this book, for the better. David Goggins delivers what is one of my favourite books of the year. ‘Can’t Hurt Me’ was a gem so I was curious to see what further value ‘Never Finished’ could provide. The answer was an abundance.

Which is why there has got to be somebody in every family, neighbourhood, culture, nation, and generation who breaks the mold and changes the way others think about society and their place in it. There has got to be someone willing to be an outlier. David Goggins is determined, ambitious, and his motivation is contagious. His story is nothing short of inspiring. At first, however, I didn't really get the purpose of this book. It basically follows this structure: Goal -> Achievement -> Goal -> Life-threatening medical issue -> Goal -> Achievement -> Goal, etc. It seems like it's just David telling the reader how tough he is, which is still incredibly inspiring, because I can't help but think that if this bad-ass mf is running 240 miles, then maybe I can run a 1ok... I’ve needed this book for awhile now. His first book was and has been significant to me. This one has reaffirmed and recharged me. Grateful for it. And, feels apt that this is my 150th book for 2022, a number that never even crossed my mind. I laughed off 125 when someone suggested it in January. Pretty much in alignment with everything he says here—that we have so much more potential than we know, that we limit ourselves in so many ways, but when we get out our our way, we can do things we never even thought possible. A self-help book about how to be the biggest badass in the world. Written by someone who is obsessed with being the biggest badass in the world. He's a Navy Seal, ultrarunner, etc. If you want to achieve success, Goggins says, you have to challenge yourself, and prove your own greatness to yourself through those challenges. Even if you don't succeed. What matters is that you are constantly in the pursuit of bettering yourself. This is not my goal, nor most people's goals. I question anyone who is this obsessed with badassery at the expense of everything else in life. Remember, the struggle is the whole journey. That’s why you’re out there. It’s why you signed up for this race or that class, or took the damn job. There is great beauty when you are involved in something that is so hard most people want it to end.” (Pg. 101) This is not a self-help book"....except that's exactly what it's billed as and how people read it and HE KNEW THAT. It's also a bit of a pity party disguised as self-help. I mean...err..."a wake up call". Exercise and running in particular is an under-utilised tool for steel plating your mind. I'm a marathon runner myself and until you cover that distance you will never understand the kind of mental beast you need to become to do that. There's pulled muscles, sore joints, a burning chest and an overwhelming desire to quit but you just keep going until you finish the mission. That experience evolves you into a mental savage that can overcome anything in life.

David Goggins is a badass! A word I personally feel is too frequently and too casual offered as a descriptor but incredibly fitting here, talking about him. ⁣Aside from this book being a never ending bible of quotable one liners strong enough to give a fish the courage to climb a tree, it was a beautiful story. David Goggins continues to push the upper limit of what was before seemingly impossible and use his experience to inspire. When demons are chasing you and challenges are hitting you, if you feel like you can’t handle them, you have to invent someone who can.” That’s how it works when you’re trying to change. The call to remain complacent will only from louder until you silence it with a pattern of behaviour that leaves no doubt about your mission.” (Pg. 142) I’d learned long ago that no matter what type of event or challenge I engage in, the only competition that ever matters is me against me.” Dislikes: Very similar to his first book (which I preferred), many aspects to his mindset are not relatable, repetitive, difficult listening at times as he seems to be an individual who enjoys punishing himself rather through working with and through his issues.
