When an ambulance crashes due to a heavy storm, Kerry and med student Michael Gallant go to the scene to help a pregnant woman trapped in the ambulance. There, she meets firefighter Lieutenant Sandy Lopez. Lopez does not let herself be impressed by Kerry's authority and vainly tries to control her. Kerry and Gallant successfully save the woman and her baby. This action leads Kerry to respect both Gallant and Lopez who did impressive work. Lopez, in turn, developed a great deal of respect for Kerry. Gasparov, M. L. (1996). Smith, G. S.; Holford-Strevens, L. (eds.). A History of European Versification. Translated by Smith, G. They historically were equivalent, but because they have accumulated multiple definitions, their meanings are ambiguous without specifying which definitions are used. [1] Sapphic as an adjective came into during the 16th century in reference to Sappho, poetess of the isle of Lesbos c. 600 BCE. The word was used especially in reference to the characteristic meter of her poetry, and it was not until the 1890s that it gained its meaning of "pertaining to sexual relations between women"; [6] the noun "sapphism", meaning "homosexual relations between women", also originated in the 1890s. [7] " Lesbian" and its meanings are similarly derived from Lesbos, the isle associated with Sappho. [8] Community [ ] History [ ]

It could also stand for lesbian, pansexual, queer, bisexual, or omnisexual. A sapphist is a woman, non-binary, and/or woman-aligned person attracted to other women. This attraction may or may not be exclusive. The Sapphic stanza, typically conceptualized as comprising 3 lesser Sapphic lines followed by an adonic, with the structure: However, after returning to the ER, Mark showed differences in his personality and sometimes said the wrong word like saying "she" instead of "he." In the view of this and of Mark's new brusqueness with patients, Kerry had him evaluated for professional competency. This made Elizabeth furious and, though Mark passed, they didn't invite her to their wedding. Though Mark and Kerry make up later, Elizabeth remained very unfriendly to her until Season 10. The word sapphic comes from the name of the Greek poet Sappho. The island she was born on, Lesbos, is where the word lesbian is derived from. After losing her Chief of Staff position, Kerry struggles to adjust, especially with having Luka as her new boss. However, she seems happy to be practicing medicine full-time again. It is during this time that she catches the eye of a TV crew filming a news segment with Dr. Morris. She literally steals the show and is soon offered a job by the film producers.

To avoid over-exposing the character of Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), the producers and writers decided to add a second authority figure to take the weight off of that character. However, where Greene was seen as the friendly boss that everyone got along with, they wanted a boss that was far more by the book and antagonistic. Kerry’s most notable storyline, in which she realizes that she is a lesbian and her subsequent coming-out journey, begins in season 7. Kerry remains closeted for some time as she grapples with reconciling her sexuality and her faith. She is later forcibly outed by her partner Sandy Lopez, who kisses her publicly in front of her coworkers; while Kerry does eventually become comfortable with her sexuality, it remains a point of contention for others, and plays a critical role in Sandy’s family arguing she should not be allowed custody of Henry. Alcaeus of Mytilene composed in, and may have invented, the Sapphic stanza, [1] but it is his contemporary and compatriot Sappho whose example exerted the greatest influence, and for whom the verseform is now named. Both lived around 600 BCE on the island of Lesbos and wrote in the Aeolic dialect of Greek.
