Short answer: not if you want to guarantee the best protection you can. The most significant is the padding design, which doesn’t protect you as well from the Boa fit system as we’d like. Cinching the helmet creates light pressure points at the sides of the head (the shape could’ve also been part of the issue, and the Merak seems to favor more of an oval-like head rather than round). Additionally, the minimalist padding meant the helmet ran on the cold side on frigid resort days, and the foam used around the ears muffles more sound than we prefer. Some will find these tradeoffs worth it for the advanced safety tech, but we’d like to see some of the finer details sorted out before moving it up our ranking.One obvious issue with using a bike helmet or a skate helmet while doing a snow sport is warmth. Road bike, mountain bike, and skate helmets are designed for warmer weather than ski helmets. In real winter weather, you will likely freeze your dome and suffer if you ski in a bike or skate helmet. Giros are well-known to fit best on oval-shaped heads. This may be part of the reason some testers prefer similarly-priced options (although non-MIPS) from Smith, which is known to fit other shaped heads better. What we liked: versatility, style, low profile, visor, number of vents, temperature control, adjustable Boa fit, hybrid shell protection, side protection, comfort and fit Removable Ear Pads: These are a style choice. Some skiers just don’t like wearing them. Others find they impact the comfort and softness of a helmet a lot.

One of the biggest differences from the Vantage MIPS is in the Cynic X2’s venting. It’s got 12 vents to the Vantage’s 21, and they are fixed rather than adjustable.
