About this deal

However, no one could have predicted that Buena Vista Social Club would become a worldwide phenomenon - awarded a Grammy in 1997 and, at eight million copies, outselling any other record in the same genre. Per the lines notes: " If it seems extraordinary that such a stellar performance was omitted from the original album, the official explanation is that the song - one of the great standards of Cuban music written by Santiago's Miguel Matamoros - was felt to be too wel known for inclusion. Further, if opened and sellers can see the labels, the 2015 states Made in EU on the labels and 2019 reads Made in Germany. The presentation is a real tribute an album that I fell in love with and that I had on CD back in the late 90s.

Otherwise I'd go with the still available 2015 reissue if you want to hear a bit better sounding version. The acclaim of the original album has elevated the artists (including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González and Omara Portuondo) to superstar status, inspired an award-winning film by Wim Wenders, and has contributed to popularizing Cuba’s rich musical heritage. I don't know what they could do to improve it by "remastering" it, aside from releasing it properly mastered for a 24 or 32 bit medium, but remastering it for CD I can think of plenty of things they could do to ruin it. This anniversary release: To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the album’s recording, producer Ry Cooder and World Circuit’s Nick Gold have gone back to the original tapes and into the archive to produce this Deluxe Remaster package, featuring previously unheard tracks from the original 1996 recording sessions, previously unseen photos, and new liner notes.Just noticed this comes in a couple of different flavours, details of which follow below, along with the tracklist. Buena Vista Social Club’ is both the name given to this extraordinary group of musicians and the album, recorded in just seven days in 1996 in Havana’s 1950s vintage EGREM studios. To showcase the popular styles of the time, such as son, bolero and danzón, they recruited a dozen veteran musicians, many of whom had been retired for many years. Overall, a good reissue, but only worth it you really need the bonus tracks or this is your first purchase ever of this record.

Not as dynamic as previous reissues like the 2015 reissue or VMP release, but this is mostly due to squeezing more songs on each side to make way for the bonus tracks on Side 4. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. All of the other versions do, but I have a version that doesn’t have Bernie Grundman’s initials in the deadwax. The project was organized by World Circuit executive Nick Gold, produced by American guitarist Ry Cooder and directed by Juan de Marcos González.

And once we’ve found that gem of a record, we do everything we can to help you appreciate the music. The pressing is flawless and Bernie Grundman has done a fantastic job with the remaster, beautiful quality with an extremely wide soundstage and depth, even plays wonderfully at low volumes. I read a comment about someone wishing the photography was high-res glossy but I'm totally cool with the way the pages are; as mentioned. Produced by Ry Cooder for World Circuit, the timeless quality of the music and the sheer verve of the veteran performers have ensured that this will go down as one of the landmark recordings of the 20th century.
