Thanks to its diminutive size, I found this little pre-lit potted tree perfect for a child’s bedroom, but could very well suit a kitchen window sill, coffee table, porch or even mantlepiece. Every year The Poetry Society commissions a poem, welcoming Norway’s gift of a Christmas tree to London’s Trafalgar Square as part of its Look North More Often project. Its best-selling Christmas Wish candle is a soothing combination of 13 essential oils, including mandarin, cinnamon and tonka bean, all wrapped up in a sleek white votive and packaging featuring a pretty pink starry print. Our favourite part is that The White Company has designed a coordinating scent, aptly named fir tree, so you can spray the tree and it'll capture the fragrance so you won’t miss that real ‘Christmas tree’ smell.

The Christmas Pine: The Tree Speaks Back! - Poetry Class

Adding pine cones to your Christmas wreath ideas is easy to do and perfect if you love rustic, farmhouse Christmas decor.Julia Donaldson is a bestselling author of children’s books whose many works include the modern children’s classics THE GRUFFALO, STICK MAN and ROOM ON THE BROOM (illustrated by Axel Scheffler) and the WHAT THE LADYBIRD HEARD series (illustrated by Lydia Monks). Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ. No one’s ever going to mistake it for a real tree, but as a piece of festive decor that you can bring out every year, it ticks all the boxes when it comes to sparkle and family cheer. Pine needles are often bundled in clusters, with commonly 2-5 needles together, each fascicle produced from a small bud on a dwarf shoot in the axil of a scale leaf. This cute pine cone trim gives present wrapping an extra dimension – and the recipient could tie them to their Christmas tree once they've opened their gift.

The Christmas Pine by Julia Donaldson, Victoria Sandøy

The seven and a half foot tree is over four feet wide, and is comprised of over 1,754 hand painted (yes, really) tips for a bushy and bright effect. Originally written for the 2020 Christmas tree, Donaldson's poem tells the story of the tree from a tiny seed inside a cone to the fully decorated tree on display. According to Balsam Hill, this year’s best-seller is already looking like their Canadian Blue Green Spruce – unlit. If you tie in a way to create an additional loop at the top the pine cone can then double as a Christmas table gift that guests can take away and hang on their tree. Leaving them to air dry can take several days – to speed up the process wash them in warm water, dry them with a towel, and then bake them in an oven at 390 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees centigrade) for around an hour.

To my eyes, the Nordmann Fir is more what I expect from a Christmas tree - the variety is more likely what you’d see as a real tree in a European household at Christmas, but there’s no doubting the Canadian Spruce is a tree of equal beauty.
