It makes perfect sense though, as KEF already has the Mu3 true wireless earbuds so an over-ear pair completes the family. As the creator of the popular Muon speakers, KEF Muo portable Bluetooth models and KEF Mu3 True Wireless IEMs, Ross Lovegrove takes the rounded lines that made these pieces of equipment so successful. But unlike almost all credible alternatives, they alter their audio stance a little when ANC is switched on – the top of the frequency range seems to diminish and round off just a little.

The memory foam ear cushions mould to the shape of your head, while the clamping force of the headband creates an acoustic seal without putting too much pressure on your ears.KEF has got plenty right with the Mu7, not least the high-end sheen of their sound and the mildly individual looks.

No doubt they’ll find their market with the cloth-eared style over substance brigade that today’s What Hi-Fi pitch towards. But given the strength and straightforward numerousness of the competition, a little more than ‘credibility’ (no matter how hard-won) is required to make a dent in consumer consciousness.
