Versions of the blasters released in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, China, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines do not have the advertised seventy-five foot firing range. On the end of the handle is a small hook-like piece of plastic, which extends down past the battery compartment.

The Firestrike is a successor to the N-Strike Nite Finder EX-3, and the fourth, and final, iteration of the original Nite Finder. As with most N-STRIKE blasters, the Tactical Rail lets you add most N-STRIKE Tactical Rail accessories (sold separately) for more battle capability.A later re-release of the Firestrike saw it drop the Elite XD moniker from its packaging, matching suit with other blasters released at the time. This blaster had a soft release in December 2012 with an N-Strike standard color scheme of blue, white, and orange. The Retaliator, the Rampage, and the Hail-Fire are all available under the Toys "R" Us exclusive Sonic ICE sub-series, in clear blue plastic instead of the standard opaque blue plastic versions, later followed by the Jolt in a shared Sonic ICE/Sonic FIRE multi-pack.

N-Strike Elite is a Nerf product series heavily focused on "tactical" dart blasters with long ranges that can be customized with various accessories. The Nerf Elite Firestrike is a muzzle loaded blaster, which means you have to insert the dart right in the end of the barrel. Voltage mods on the flywheel blasters will bring the range on par with the seventy-five feet versions.

The Firestrike Elite (like the X-Shot) has a little hoop where little fingers can have an easier time preparing the gun for firing. The Barrel Break IX-2, Strongarm, and Jolt are all available under the Toys "R" Us exclusive Sonic FIRE sub-series in clear red plastic instead of the standard opaque blue, including an exclusive color variant of the Elite Darts with red instead of blue bodies, the same color also used by the larger Mega Darts.

It’s bigger and just feels better, especially without the secondary trigger that you can find on the Elite Firestrike. To keep with other countries' safety standards, these N-Strike Elite blasters only have a firing range of fifteen meters (about fifty feet). Interestingly some blasters like the Rampage and FlaconFire still release with white, blue and orange as the primary color.The Micro Shots sub-series features Jolt-like blasters molded to look like blasters from multiple series. All the direct plunger blasters are fitted with a weaker spring and the flywheel blasters are fitted with some sort of "limiter" which prevents the flywheels from spinning at their maximum potential speed.
