About this deal

A supergroup formed in Los Angeles the mid-'90s consisting of B-list guys from A-list bands, Neurotic Outsiders picked up an unexpected following when a one-time charity concert at the Viper Room led to a house-band engagement. It certainly was hard task to do something in music after you’ve been part of making rock history with a quick, sharp and very mercurial thing that was The Sex Pistols.

Manchmal ist die Stimme von Steve Jones aber leider zu sehr verzerrt wie bei “Six feet under“ und “Revolution“. The album’s lyrics foreshadowed many of the themes addressed in Steve Jones’ acclaimed 2018 autobiography, Lonely Boy, now adapted by director Danny Boyle ( Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) as the 2022 Hulu miniseries “Pistol. This Expanded Edition of Neurotic Outsiders includes the original remastered album adding four b-sides from a rare Japan-only EP. With Neurotic Outsiders, things felt completely loose,” laughs Taylor of the ragtag nature of the band.

As more and more of Jones’ post Sex Pistols originals started making their way into their sets, the band began embracing the new material. As enthusiasm for the band increased, they were signed to Maverick Records, releasing one album, the self-titled Neurotic Outsiders, in 1996. Included are covers Duran Duran’s “ Planet Earth” (from the Japan-only EP) and a furious rendition of The Clash’s “ Janie Jones. What started out as a random mishmash of his musician friends - JOHN TAYLOR ( Duran Duran) and DUFF McKAGAN and MATT SORUM ( Guns N' Roses) - and a Monday night residency at the infamous club turned into NEUROTIC OUTSIDERS. Axl Rose from Guns N' Roses, and Ian Astbury, Billy Duffy, and Mickey Curry, all from The Cult - which Matt Sorum played with both before and after Guns N' Roses - all also made guest appearances on the Steve Jones solo album Fire and Gasoline. Our resources are crucial for knowledge lovers everywhere—so if you find all these bits and bytes useful, please pitch in. Jones wrote most of the songs, while Taylor wrote the remaining songs and the other members collaborated on some tracks. Long out of print, Neurotic Outsiders is being re-released in an Expanded Edition, containing all the tracks from the album plus their rare Japanese–only EP. The reason why the whole thing worked might lie in one of Jones’ comments on the band: “We all were in these high-profile, high maintenance bands with very little actual playing. We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use.

Originally starting out as the resident Monday night band at LA's notorious Viper Room that hosted a wide array of surprise guests including Simon LeBon, Billy idol, Izzy Stradlin, Chrissie Hynde, Ian Astbury, Sporty Spice Mel C, Iggy Pop, Brian Setzer, and Slash, the band’s own internal chemistry between its four members was so apparent that soon Neurotic Outsiders was born. Yet from there on, the core band started working on their own songs, pulling in Talking Heads’ Jerry Harrison to produce the album full of songs that reek of essence of punk in its prime form. The band started out with covers and hosted a number of surprise guests like Simon LeBon, Billy idol, Izzy Stradlin, Chrissie Hynde, Ian Astbury, Sporty Spice Mel C, Iggy Pop, Brian Setzer, and Slash. We had a fun time making that record and I think it could’ve done well if we’d all been around to give it a proper push.Download the Qobuz apps for smartphones, tablets and computers, and listen to your purchases wherever you go. Story Of My Life” retells Jones’ own addict’s lament while Taylor’s “ Better Way” is “a testament to our sober lives and it was not the song I would have envisioned writing with the co-author of ‘Pretty Vacant’.

A seguito di un incontro in occasione di una sessione sonora al Viper Room, registrarono nel 1996 l' album omonimo per la Maverick Records, seguito da un tour in Europa e Nord America. It somehow turned out that possibly a chance a pickup band Jones formed for a benefit concert for a cancer-stricken friend in LA sometime in mid-nineties would turn out to be one of his better musical statements in the post-Pistols era. The first line-up featured Billy Idol and Steve Stevens (together with McKagan and Sorum) but they were soon replaced by Jones and Taylor. Just as the band was starting to gather steam, each of the band members were - one by one - pulled away when their previously inactive bands started reforming again, leaving prospects of a continuation of Neurotic Outsiders swept away in the Viper Room's evening detritus. The album’s first single Jerk is a standard self-deprecating Jones’ track where he proclaims “I’m a jerk” as a chorus.Other tracks include “ Angelina” (a tribute to the inescapable 80’s / 90’s pink-haired billboard queen of LA), “ Good News” (a bitter send-off with the lyric “the good news is you’re dying, the bad news is I’m alive”). The album’s first single “ Jerk” is a standard self-deprecating Jones’ track where he proclaims “I’m a jerk” as a chorus. All four members of Neurotic Outsiders are in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, as is the album’s producer Jerry Harrison. Successivamente si riunirono nell'aprile del 1999, per tre show al Viper Room, e il 7 dicembre 2006 per un'altra performance dal vivo. Neurotic Outsiders, as they named themselves, along with jones on guitar and vocals included Duran Duran’s John Taylor on bass and vocals, Guns N’ Roses Duff McKagan also on guitar and vocals and Matt Sorum on drums.
