We’ve seen big strides in the development of insulin pump technology in recent years, and now evolving smart insulin pen technology is showing how these devices can make life a little easier for people who use multiple daily injections. We spoke to two members of the diabetes community to understand their experiences with smart insulin pens and explore the impact that widespread use of these pens could have on diabetes teams as well as people with diabetes.Novo Nordisk believes that digital health solutions such as smart insulin pens will help close the gap between the potential of modern diabetes medicines and the reality that most people struggle to use them to their best effect. NovoPen 6 and NovoPen Echo Plus can allow healthcare professionals to view their patients’ insulin dosing information, helping to facilitate more productive consultations and support personalised treatment guidance. The NovoPen 6 and NovoPen Echo Plus both feature an electronic display that shows the amount of active insulin (insulin on board or “IOB”), size of the last dose, and time since last injection. Novo Nordisk will launch the NovoPen 6 and NovoPen Echo Plus in early 2019 in select countries, with an eventual launch in over 50 countries.

A leading global healthcare company has launched two smart connected insulin pens in the UK to improve the lives of people living with diabetes.Over time, NovoPen 6 and NovoPen Echo Plus will replace NovoPen 5 and NovoPen Echo in regions where the devices are currently marketed. Since that time, they have launched the Cornerstones4Care app, and the two will continue to work together as Novo Nordisk brings its connected insulin pens to market. Novo Nordisk are delighted to announce the launch of NovoPen® 6 and NovoPen Echo® Plus in Ireland – smart insulin pens that offer digital connectivity for people with diabetes. There are two smart pens currently available on the NHS, both manufactured by Novo Nordisk: the NovoPen 6® and NovoPen Echo Plus®.
