the only caveat i have is that all the rapid historical explanations might get a bit confusing for the book's intended audience although i do think they're worded in a simple, digestible way. Edutainment: Clearly inspired by the genre, as it's a story where a boy has to learn Chinese history and culture to increase his own magical power. It takes him a moment before he realizes that it's an Islamophobic message directed at his mother, who wears a hijab. Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor is marketed as Percy Jackson meets Yu Gi Oh and for once the comps are exactly what this book offers. Zachary Ying is into this VR game involving mythology, but things go wrong when spirits take over the bodies of his friends and the spirit of a Chinese emperor wants to take over his.
