Just when I think Auren's life takes a turn for the better, the shit hits the fan again and I'm left gapping at words on a page. I figure the my biggest issue was that Auren was back with Midas and I hate that guy with a passion. At some point, someone discovered that men that taking control and commanding women in the bedroom is sexy, and that women finding pleasure from men using "dirty" words about their body (and commanding the women to use them) is sexy. I can't even believe the depth of some of the topics (mental health, abuse) but Raven Kennedy managed to create a wonderful book that went into most of that with such ease and navigational skills. Malina’s last chapter in this has her in a precarious position (not quite as precarious as Auren, but let’s just say both of them aren’t doing well).

stars up and give the book 3 stars (like I did with the second book) but the more I think about this series the less I like it so rounding down it is. He uses such a weak excuse to keep her on a leash- he's holding a random fucking guard hostage and won't let her see him? Mist says Midas will officially recognise her baby as his, so it’ll be king or queen when it grows up.Midas has Auren locked in her room but she climbs (read: falls) out the window to speak to Rissa about a new plan. There were some enjoyable things, especially at the beginning, but I still have whiplash from all the cringing I did over their romance, so this gets three stars.

His "plan" made sense when he was a traveller that got greedy, not a criminal mastermind that had been coveting her for years.So when she suddenly approaches Slade, tells him her life's story of abuse, and then says "I want you", he should have taken at least a moment to let her know that his love (if that's what it is) didn't hinge on sex, that he cherished her as a person and would treat her with respect.

Most of all, she's torned between her loyalty to Midas and the growing feelings between her and Rip - who pushes her to reveal she's Fae as well.This was such a gripping and intense book and the action and cliffhanger at the end was just awesome! I don’t even know how I waited these three days to finish the book but I just knew shit was about to go down in the last 20%.
