About this deal

We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for two months in our Accelerated Longevity Test.

Unlike the higher end QLED TVs for 2019, the Q70R doesn’t have the one connect box. This is obviously a cost-cutting measure and a shame as we really like the one connect approach with just one cable to the TV for power and sources. We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for four months in our Accelerated Longevity Test.

Performance

The Apple TV app works well and is easy to setup and connect with your existing Apple account, providing access to TV shows and movies, as well as your own library. The picture and sound quality are excellent, and the app supports 4K and HDR10. Apple also supports Dolby Vision and Atmos, but Samsung doesn’t support the former and there’s currently no support for the latter, although that could be added.

The QE55Q70BATXXUhas a Quantum 4K processor that makes navigating through the menus and smart features of this lovely set easy and fast as well as optimising the picture and sound to give you the best possible experience possible. Multitasking between apps, menus and settings is a breeze for the QE55Q70BATXXUas well as optimising the picture quality for omtimum viewing at all times. From the top down we have two USB slots, an optical digital audio output and four HDMI inputs, followed by a LAN port and two satellite and one terrestrial antenna. Alternatively you can collect free of charge from one of our 7 branches (see steps below) HDR10 and HLG are nice to have, but it’s the HDR10+ support that’s most important. This HDR format enhances images by fine-tuning the brightness in each and every scene to eke out the smallest details that might otherwise be lost to dark shadows or specular highlights. And if your Q70A resides in a room with variable ambient light (as most will), the TV’s adaptive brightness can automatically adjust contrast and brightness to suit the environment, keeping your 4K HDR movies looking impactful.Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output Samsung has resisted the temptation to embrace HDMI 2.1, claiming the current 2.0b inputs do all that is needed of them. That might disappoint some, but the company claims the Q70 can handle 4K at up to 120Hz, dynamic metadata (HDR10+), variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low latency mode (ALLM). The only thing missing is enhanced audio return channel (eARC), but Samsung says that will be coming via a software update by the end of the month. The mid-range model in Samsung’s 2021 4K QLED line-up, the Q70A is an elegant looking 4K option with a whole raft of features for home cinema, TV and gaming addicts alike. It’s also a considerably less expensive option than any of Samsung’s recently released Neo QLED Mini LED range. Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, Samsung forgot to bring the bass, which is an essential part of any self-respecting home cinema. Obviously, this bass deficiency can be easily rectified with the addition of a soundbar – something Samsung has more than pre-empted with its 2021 Q-series and A-series soundbar range.
