About this deal

As a result of what (Jaybird says) included studying thousands of different ear scans, the Vista buds have been built to offer a comfortable and secure design that fits just about any ear size. And you can tell. This attention to detail in the design really pays off for the Vista buds, providing what we believe is one of the most comfortable experiences you can find in a pair of true wireless buds currently. The case also charges via USB-C, and can top-off your buds up to an hour’s worth of playing time in 5 minutes (the same as the Vista 1). The Vistas time as well as any runner’s pacer app. There’s a fair dollop of detail on offer – we easily hear Freddie utter “all right” during May’s instrumental electric guitar section. As Another One Bites the Dust begins, there’s no shortage of excitement and clout through the initial driving bass guitar riff, or dynamic build through an impressive crescendo. The Vistas are punchy, perky performers. Activate ‘Find my buds’–Being able to ping each earbud and the charging case independently is awesome if you ever lose an earbud or the entire charge case and need to find it. Not only can you make the earbuds play a loud noise to help you locate them but you can also see their location on the map within the app. Today Jaybird announced their new Vista 2 earbuds, which add a host of new features, including many aimed at the endurance sports crowd. From increased waterproofing and even military-spec resistance levels, to SurroundSense noise pass-through, better wind cancellation, rapid charging, and more. In theory, these new features would make it more appealing to athletes, including their sponsored cycling teams like L39ION, who they added today (and is also sponsored by Zwift for indoor training).

They aim to differentiate themselves from key rivals, including the Apple AirPods (2019), Samsung Galaxy Budsand the Powerbeats Pro by offering buyers an unashamedly fitness focused design and wealth of custom features that marathon runners and gym goers will love. The earbuds connected to our smartphone instantaneously the moment we took them out of the case, and it’s clear Jaybird has worked hard in this department to make this a seamless experience.

How do you connect the Jaybird Vista to your phone?

During exercise is where that performance really matters and there’s certainly no let up on that front. We used them for indoor and outdoor workouts, and the audio quality overall was great, feeling like a bit of a step up compared to the original Vista earbuds. We’d be inclined to say the similarly priced Jabra Elite Active 75t offer a little more in terms of power and detail but the Vista 2 are still really great sounding earbuds for exercise.

Better Microphone quality – 4 Beamforming microphones on the Vista 2 combined with wind-proof guard material allows for better audio quality than the original Vista Also, I can’t quite understand the draw for in-ear wireless headphones. I much prefer the wireless models with a cable between the two ear-buds because The Jaybird Vista 2 aren't tiny but comparatively smaller than earhook-style headphones such as the Beats Powerbeats Pro. They weigh a mere 6 grams (or 0.2 oz, per bud). In terms of design, the Vista 2 looks and feels very similar to its predecessor, with the main difference being the material covering the buds: the Vista 2 sports a fabric-like, textured cover instead of the Vista's full-plastic design. Once paired up to a watch, there’s no additional configuration that you can do, aside from basic controls (start/stop/volume). However, if you predefine the sound management options to be one of your earbud tap options, then you can access that mid-workout – allowing you to iterate through the three main sound management modes. Which, is as good a time as any to discuss them.A rating of IP68 means these earbuds are deemed fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and are resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes. The build here is functional and un-fussy. The brushed, rubberised plastic provides enough grip for them to not leap from our hand; the chord loop on the small case is useful and the neon yellow interior of the case is perfect for locating the buds on an early-morning run. Everything is designed with the runner in mind. In the context of cycling, the Jaybird Vista 2 fits a very distinct niche and does it well. When you put them on, you know that they are not going to fall out. It doesn't matter if the road is bumpy and you are bouncing around, it doesn't matter if you are sweating and shaking your head, they will not come loose. To be clear, most quality true wireless earbuds have solved this challenge by now but Jaybird feels even more secure.

The most competitive price point and you can get more features at the same price. The reason to choose these is the secure fit.

How well does the Jaybird Vista block out sound?

True wireless often means making do with the audio compression over Bluetooth, but Jaybird averts the worst of this by connecting directly to each earbud, instead of having them connect to each other. (This also means you can use the left or right earbud by itself, if you really need to draw out the battery life or hear incoming cars.) I’m always kinda amazed how a product (of any type) from the outside can more or less look the same, but be vastly different inside, both hardware-wise but also software-wise. I suppose by now I should be used to this, but it’s really not till I sit down to write one of these ‘What’s New’ sections that all the little (and big) features that change between each iteration of a product bubble to the surface. And of course, there are invariably plenty more developer/engineer level changes that happen too. One of our favourite design features in the Vista earbuds, however, is their impressive IPX7 water resistance, which not only makes them super-rugged but will see them survive a drop in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes. This doesn’t mean they’re suitable for swimming but it is a worthwhile feature for the accident-prone or those crazy people who like to exercise in the rain. Comfort. Jaybird's headphones are some of the most comfortable – if not the most comfortable – we've tested. In our review, we noted that the Vista 2 earbuds pop into your ears without any fuss, while the discreet wing helps them stay there during even the jerkiest of head movements. Three sizes of interchangeable eartips (or ‘Sport Eargels’, as Jaybird calls them) accommodate various ear types, too. One member of the What Hi-Fi? team swears by them for runs. The Vista, Tarah and Tarah Pro offer the same waterproofing as the Vista 2, just without the dust resistance.
