Dit boek is exact wat je ervan verwacht op basis van de achterflap. Een avontuurlijk verhaal dat zich leest alsof je er zelf middenin zit. Het betreft een futuristisch in-game verhaal, echt ontzettend origineel en goed uitgewerkt! Alleen het begin vond ik een klein beetje vaag en rommelig, maar toen ik er eenmaal inzat zag ik het helemaal voor me! Sommige dingen vond ik wel erg voorspelbaar en allemaal “iets” te toevallig, maar het blijft een kinderboek dus ook wel logisch. Daarentegen gingen sommige stukjes wel erg snel en chaotisch, of werden me een beetje te technisch, zodat ik even terug moest lezen om tot me door te laten dringen wat er nu precies stond. Dit kan er zeker ook mee te maken hebben dat ik het boek in het Engels las. Heb af en toe toch wat woorden moeten opzoeken namelijk… Wonderscape was a rather enjoyable read. I found myself immersed in the plot, and became very fond of the characters. The main characters - Arthur, Ren and Cecily - were full of humour and very likeable; this was mainly because of the way that they reacted to the various problems that they were faced with. Personally, I thought that they logically overcame each difficulty in a reasonable and relatable manner. This helped me agree with and admire them. Another interesting aspect of Wonderscape is the fact that it is not just set in a single historical period. Alternatively, it contains many significant people throughout history. For example, one challenge in the Wonderscape realm is based on Isaac Newton, a famous English mathematician and physicist known for his laws of motion and universal theory of gravity. Meanwhile, another realm is commanded by Tomoe Gozen, a traditional warrior who appeared in 14th century Japanese literature. As a reader, I found that this gave me a broader and more substantial view of overall world history - more than it would have done if the novel only focused on one particular period of time. Furthermore, I liked the fact that the characters seemed to learn throughout the whole of the duration of the story; this made me feel that they had become significantly better people by the final chapter. Hello everybody. Today I have for you a non-spoilery review of Jennifer Bell’s middle grade book Wonderscape, followed by an interview with the author. When Arthur, Ren and Cecily enter an abandoned house to rescue a trapped dog, they unknowingly step through a portal into both the future and a galactic ‘in reality’ adventure game called Wonderscape. Pia lives on the last zoo: a floating armada that houses the strangest collection of creatures the world’s ever seen, from genies to mirror-orangutans to hummingdragons. Collectively called ‘voilas’, they each have a special ability, and everyone hopes these will help save the world from environmental catastrophe. The tension builds as they deal with not only the trials that they must complete to progress, but also with their confusion and frustration navigating these unknown and unusual realms. On top of this, they must contend with the different aspirations of the siblings who run HXPERION and their desire to do whatever necessary to keep Wonderscape at the top…Hi , Wonderescape is a book full of wonder and perfect for the people who want to dive into adventure or into time ! Also it is about friendship ! beside you and the message at the end was empowering, showing that you have controlof what you choose and the future you want. It says in the book that “Our futures are fullof possibility”, “They always have been”. And I really liked that quote. Wonderscape is abook I would recommend to other readers my age. So relaxing. I appreciate the care and uniqueness you put in all of your products. It’s a joy to relax with the textured balls that are fun to roll in the sand. Waves, bubbles and footprints-how perfect."
