About this deal

V - The Bridge of Khazad-dûm - Attacked by Orcs, trolls and a Balrog of Morgoth, they make their way to the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, where Gandalf and the Balrog fall.

According to The New York Times, Barbara Remington's cover designs for Ballantine's paperback editions "achieved mass-cult status in the 1960s, particularly on college campuses" across America. Also appearing are two full-size maps drawn by Christopher Tolkien revealing all the detail of Middle-earth.

Someone must throw the Ring into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was first created, deep in Mordor, Sauron's country. His popularity for his Gollum performance in the Jackson trilogy doesn’t mean he is well-suited to reading the book - and this audiobook utterly proves that. For those who come from watching the movies alone, a listen to the Fellowship of the Ring will be a fantastic new adventure of a story they might consider themselves to already be familiar with.

V · The Bridge of Khazad-dûm — Attacked by orcs and trolls, the Fellowship tries to make their way to the bridge of Khazad-dum, but Gandalf falls during a confrontation with a Balrog on the bridge. After a failed attempt to cross the Misty Mountains over the Redhorn Pass, the Fellowship take the perilous path through the Mines of Moria. There was little to no doubt on his voice acting, and he proved in this book that he’s perfect for it.Isildur had cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand in the battle ending the Second Age, but refused to destroy it, claiming it for himself. He has a great understanding and I think love for the Tolkien stories that comes through in this magnificent performance! It explains how the narrative follows on from The Hobbit, in which the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins finds the One Ring, which had been in the possession of Gollum.Knowing the Black Riders will attempt to seize the Ring, Strider guides the group toward the Elvish sanctuary of Rivendell. VII - In the House of Tom Bombadil - Tom knows much about the hobbits, and even tries on the Ring, yet it does not have any effect on him - it doesn't even make him invisible.

The work is divided internally into six books, two per volume, with several appendices of background material. Because of the difficulty Bilbo has in giving the ring away, his friend the wizard Gandalf the Grey suspects that the ring is more than it appears. III · The Ring goes South — The nine members of the fellowship travel south through Hollin; they try to take the road over the mountain Caradhras but are forced to turn back. Different reasons for the structure have been proposed, including deliberate construction of a cosy world, laboriously groping for a story, and Tolkien's work habits, involving continual rewriting.

XI · A Knife in the Dark — The hobbits set out with Strider from Bree on foot after their ponies had bolted when Black Riders arrived at the inn at night, who had also attacked the beds which they were supposed to be staying in, though Strider had them stay in another room. After a failed attempt to cross the Misty Mountains, the Fellowship risk the path through the Mines of Moria. There, Boromir tries to take the Ring from Frodo, but immediately regrets it after Frodo puts on the Ring and disappears. Gandalf informs Frodo that the Black Riders are the Nazgûl, Men from ancient times enslaved by Rings of Power to serve Sauron. Eventually, they meet the Elf Glorfindel from Rivendell, who allows Frodo to take his white horse Asfaloth to escape the Ringwraiths on their way to Rivendell.
