About this deal

Reconnect with the seasons in Britain and Ireland with this month-by-month guide to the world around us – including key dates, tide tables and garden tasks; constellations and moon phases; sunrises, folk songs, seasonal recipes plus a ‘bun of the month’; and – because 2023 will be a good year for planet spotting – the solar system and the zodiac. Beautifully packaged both outside and in, The Almanac will give you, literally, twelve months of pleasure. The book is easy to use as the pages have been sprayed on the corner and then gradually work down so it is easy to see at a glance roughly where you need to be. Each sign of the Zodiac is explained in their given month including categories such as plantary symbol, associated planet, element, colour and characteristics.

This audiobook combines content from all Lia Leendertz’s Almanacs and is updated annually to include new recipes, tips, stories and seasonal information to accompany you throughout the year. An Almanac provides astronomical and meteorological data for any given year including the rising and setting times of the Sun, schedules for the tides and Spring tides, tables of Moon phases and planet positions, a monthly calendar of special days, traditional events and historical knowledge, all of which are a pleasure to explore and enjoy through the seasons. But the author does encourage you to look at what is happening outside, are there buds or bees starting to emerge. If I have any criticism at all it’s of myself for not making more of the seasonal recipes or checking the tables for tides or the phase of the moon we’re in. There are stories, songs, recipes, connections to the natural world and a sense that there are patterns to the year that have been going on for millennia. I have often bought an Almanac for the coming year and they have varied in quality, usefulness and beauty. Her reinvention of the traditional rural almanac has become an annual must-have for readers eager to connect with the seasons, appreciate the outdoors and discover ways to mark and celebrate each month.
